You don't "pass" on All Star players to keep role players. I like Parsons, but of course you go for Love. You gotta give love to get Love.
He will get a lot of love from the ladies, he will get paid famously. One can only be that greedy
I really like Parsons for our team. He gets labeled a lot of times as the 'glue guy' for our team, whatever that means. And one of the things that is needed for our team to compete is to build chemistry- Parsons obviously has great chemistry with Dwight, Harden and Lin (even though we don't know how much longer Lin will be here) So there is no denying that Parsons is a good player and a good fit for our team. If at all possible, it would be great to keep him. However, if that was what was absolutely required to get Love, you have to do that trade. Morey himself said last year that we didn't have the third best player for a championship team yet. If we had Harden, Dwight and Love that wouldn't be an issue at all. There would obviously be big concerns. Doing that trade would leave a huge hole for us at the SF position. And with Harden's and Love's defensive shortcomings, hopefully we would be able to find a good defender to fill that spot. Maybe even a veteran who would play for the vet minimum for a chance to ride the coattails of our superstars to a championship? Hmm...veteran SF who plays decent defense available this offseason? Maybe we could convince Deng to come here for the MLE to compete for a championship?
If Morey can grab one of those without trading Parsons, more power to him. If it comes down to keeping Parsons or making a major upgrade, I know where I stand. Parsons is a great glue guy and talented offensive player but there is a vast talent gap between him and a superstar like Melo or Love.
Well, if not Parsons (plus other players and picks), then you'd have to give up Harden (and probably to a third team). 'Cause anything less will not get Kevin Love on this team. Lin + Asik + #25 + Tjones does not yield one of the best power forwards in the game (the best, if you don't count defense; and apparently the Rockets' front office does not). Even if Love went to his management and said, "I will only play for the Houston Rockets," then I as his management would tell him (and his agent), "Well, you'd better not hold your breath, because I already told Morey that if I wanted dogs*** I'd go walk across my lawn." I don't think they'll trade Parsons. For some odd reason he enjoys playing for McHale (maybe because Milk Hair gives him so much freedom). Hell, supposedly Kevin Love enjoyed playing for McHale, too. But trading Harden to get Kevin Love is even less likely. Soooooooooooo.....that leaves Carmelo as Plan B, I guess. Unless Morey sends Luca Brasi over to talk it over with Twolves management. (Oh, wait, Luca sleeps with the fishes.) Or puts a horse head in the bed of Twolves GM Milt Newton: "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
