Who the hell voted no considering the options present. I would take the CURRENT Dennis Rodman at MLE if we got Kobe as well.

It depends on the lineup at that time.

With a healthy Yao and T-mac (or another all-star level player) combo on the court, Ron's effectiveness on both offensive and defensive sides goes down dramatically.

The best senario for the rockets to bring him back is the similar rotation the rockets had last year, which is not gonna happen in the upcoming season or in 2010.

Regardless if Tmac and/or Yao will be ready to play, The point is that the team will be getting him for FREE. It would not hurt to have him. He knows the system already and is basically one up on Ariza, who has to adjust.

sorry, voted on this without reading everything in full. you said 'for free'.. i assumed that meant no cost. So I'd change from Yes to No if you're saying we'd have to assume his 5 year deal

You can't be serious. It's funny how Artest gets a pass on so many things from the fans. It's because his antics are so consistantly odd that it's considered the norm and brushed under the rug. That's not a good thing. The boxers thing is a huge problem because it happened before Game 7 in the Lakers series, and his missed both busses that had his teammates in. He barely made the third bus. This was our most important game of the season and he didn't care enough about his team to even make the bus on time. This clearly was not an isolated incident and it's been documented he did other things behind the scenes. I look forward to seeing his ridiculous antics, overrated defense, and horrible shot selection bring down the Lakers team.

Watch Ron destroy LA's chemistry, he is a great guy, but an oddball, whom people walk around on egg shells.

    Kobe has his hands full....

Ron Artest gave me headaches at the games. Watching him completely disregard the offense would get me so mad that I would have to tell myself to enjoy the game because I would get to just watching at what he was doing and forget about everything else.

At the same time, I wanted him back because I loved his competitive fire even if it hurt the team at times. Go figure.

5 years contract? Sorry, I just can't take him back for that long for that much.

Haven't we learned enough about bad contracts?

Also, I hope those Rick Adelman haters start appreciating a players' coach, unlike Jeff Van Gundy.

Except, the original post said, "Lakers are basically looking to give him away for free." That doesn't mean the Lakers waive him, and we sign him for the minimum. I think it just means that the Lakers just give us Artest and his contract.

Of course, if his contract wasn't there, and he plays for us for free... Hell Yea. Sign him as quickly as possible.

Nope, the one thing the Rockets can say is that they don't have a single crippling contract (this can be debated depending on how you look at Yao), so there would be no reason to start that now. There is no way Artest is going to contribute at nearly the same level in 2 years as he did last year, and from that point on, he would STILL have 2 years remaining. I feel like right now, the Rockets are incredibly flexible with what they can in the future, and I like it.

HELL YEA!!! Artest for free!!! Every team in the league would do that. I would love to have Ron Ron back in a Rockets uniform. He will be miss though because he did brought some intensity to this team. He brought toughness that we lacked for years. Having him for free is a blessing

If he renounced all Kobe loving feelings and visited Tmac in the shower telling him he wants to help him win :D then??? Maybe?

Only a moron who has severe problems with accepting reality (you) would want a psycho like Artest on this team. Listen, if you are so desperate to win that you are willing to line up and kiss the a$$ of a fool like Artest, then by all means be my guest. Not me. I don't Artest. I NEVER liked Artest. I was not in favor the trade that Morey made to bring him to the Rockets. I am glad he's taken his freakshow to LA. Let them watch him walk around in his underwear. In case you've forgotten, the ultimate objective for the Rockets is to grow and become a championship team and not to act as zookeepers for every nut who can play basketball.
