I would definitely be calm enough to aim for the penis.

the notion that we have all these marksmen on here who have the skillz to be able to shoot-to-wound vs. shoot-to-kill is pretty silly. i imagine it would be difficult enough to hit the person at all, let alone peg them in the leg or some other non-vital area.

I don't think I'd have any problem running through these scenarios in a split second.

If the person is an immediate danger, you shoot till you kill.

If not, you shoot to disable, and if you fail to disable, you shoot till disabled or dead.

If you're not composed in such a situation, you're f'ed anyway because everyone who breaks into your house is mentally prepared for a situation where you're going to kill them.

Luckily, I don't have a gun, and barely anyone in my country does.

I doubt there's any average person in the world who wouldn't shoot to kill an armed intruder who breaks into the family house.

No doubt I would be scared ****less and I doubt my shot is any good anymore, but if we're talking about intention, that's how it would go down. 'Success' is another story.

You shoot him in the leg and he shoots you back in the face. Also, I can think of no logical scenario where you know the intruder is unarmed. Is he naked when he robs you? You should act assuming he does have a gun and he will use it on you and your family.

Personally, I would shoot the weapon out of the dude's hand then put him in a sleeper hold.

Actually, having thought it over, I basically agree. (Agreeing with known nutjob tallanvor? Wonders never cease.) If I had a gun I expect terror and its adrenaline would kick in and I'd probably empty it into his heart and head. Luckily home break-ins are fairly rare, even more so when people are home, so I will probably never have to deal with the situation. All it takes is to make your own home less attractive to criminals than your neighbors'. Maybe that means an alarm (or a sticker that says you have one), maybe a dog (or a beware of dog sign), maybe bars on windows. I feel sorry for people who live in such fear of a thing that will likely never happen that they load their houses up with instruments that have no use but to kill. It reminds me of people who believe they genuinely need guns to stave off an attack from their own government. Both groups need mental health treatment, IMO.

I have five dogs. Two of which would bite. One of those two would die protecting us.

If you get by the dogs it means you really, really want to harm me or my family so you would be dead if I owned a gun but I don't. I can't see anyone wanting to hurt us or steal our stuff so badly that they fight/kill my dogs in order to do it so a gun seems useless.

We still don't have effective deterrents to immobilize bad guys on command & non-fatally. No geek tech stun guns and trap doors and that kind of thing. Unfortunately the risk of death is built in.

    Would I shoot? Yes.
Would I shoot with intent to kill? No, not necessarily. Too many variables can happen all at once to REALLY know...

But the threat of death is THERE cuz not many people are marksman enough with guns to only take them down without serious repercussion. So if they die within the act, thats just the risk THEY take.

    Collateral damage.

Having suffered the ignominy of being robbed and assaulted twice (once with a rifle butt to my face), I like to think I'd have the rage and adrenaline to shoot someone with intent to kill at first sight of a home invasion.

I bought a few firearms after the above happened, but to this day I have never gotten a chance to use them and I hope I won't have to.

If you get a gun, you train with shooting to kill in mind.

Breaking into my dwelling is the equivalent of declaring war. I do not have the luxury of aiming for a hand or groin. I will shoot you until you are no longer a threat.

    The End.

Make sure he can still use that hand to keep slapping against your choking arm so you can tell when he's finally passed out.

I'd shoot with buck-shot. I wouldn't want to get sued for negligence or anything.

I'd unload half the clip. Don't want to get sued and don't want any BS testimony that the cops can screw up. Shoot to kill.
