Don't listen to or consume any other sports media outside of Houston because it's anti-rockets and only seek out the ones who have a favorable opinion? Lots of hate coming through these days. It will be interesting to see the press conference and how much Morey says he wanted D'Antoni, because I have a feeling a lot of people here are going to be surprised at what Les and Daryl have to say.
Morey is a bad GM and his analytic system is a flop. You can't just look at players like numbers and think you can put two 3's together to get a 10. The Rockets haven't had great chemistry under him because he doesn't focus on that. Granted he was able to put a ton of talent together with over achieving role players which made it to the WCF. But if you want to win it all you have to have a balanced combination of talent + chemistry. Can't just have one or the other.
Morey is part of this hire - he put D'Antoni in front of Les. They are in this together.....unless he resigns...... DD
If Maury resigns, that would definitely be positive news. One less problem for the Rockets to worry about. It would be even better if he became another team's problem like Sam Hinkie until he resigned. But, make no mistake about it, Maury had input on this hiring and signed off on it too.
If I was him I would, his resume has been pretty impressive in getting Harden/Howard to sign as well as drafting and getting underrated FA to get the team to reasonable success over the last few years, especially post Yao/Tmac era. It's not even about the reputation that will be possibly tarnished by Les anymore but the fact that you are not being trusted to do the job you are hired to do anymore and working for someone that you possibly don't trust anymore.
That does not make any sense. Les is Morey's boss. If Les says do something or gets something organized, Morey has little choice. If anything it seems like Morey tried to interview everyone alive to convince his boss otherwise, but since he could not do so, it is now Morey's fault? So unless Morey quits, Les did not overrule Morey? Why does he have to quit to prove that lesson? He is likes his job otherwise and the other things that come with it, why should he have to leave? Also, you don't think just quitting like that as a public statement to "differences with the owner" would not rub other other owners the wrong way?
i disagree. les has always wanted MDA since JVG was let go because he wanted a more "phoenix like" offense. morey said he wanted a defensive minded coach, and was pushing a JVG reunion and vogel. les wouldn't have it. if this team underperforms again, i see les and morey breaking up. call it what you want, les fires morey, or spares him and allows him to step down. i also see les promoting MDA to replace morey as coach and gm.
This. And even this is true, it's only fitting. A GM who wants to play coach deserves a owner who wants to play GM.
Morey is more than just a bit player on this hire. This was his pick and he is inexplicably getting a pass on this one and Les is getting the blame. Morey wanted Dantoni from the start and absolutely loves his philosophy of three pointers before 7 seconds. Did we all forget what Morey has forced the NBDL team to do???
Yes, you apparently did miss the several people confirming that this was Les' decision and not Morey's.
Because Morey would in any world say "I didn't want MDA and think this is a bad decision by Les"? Yea, good luck finding the truth via an official press conference.
You are a fool if you think Morey wanted D'Antoni. Why in the world do you think that Morey presented over 12 other candidates to Les, and dragged this thing out till nearly the end of the playoffs? If Les wanted to interview D'Antoni what was Morey supposed to do??... hire someone to kidnap Mike?
Moreyball is virtually a poor man's version of D'Antoni's system in Phoenix. You're a fool if you think Morey didn't want this With ALL this blame shifting from Morey's brigade here, are you prepared to give Les ALL the credit if D'Antoni is successful?
I absolutely would resign, but he might also be a person that does not like to quit (which is essentially what he'd be doing) when things get tough. It's in his best interest to resign though. He is in an untenable position.
He should resign, but he won't do so. Morey will go after the FA's that Les wants. Players like Ryan Anderson etc, who can't play a lick of defense. Morey can't hide, and say we are on the way to success under D'Antoni. He will to take the blame for failure as much as Les and D'Antoni.
