If I'm a GM who is no longer allowed to do his job; yes it's time to go. And truthfully part of this is Morey's fault. Morey had a decade to get it done and he couldn't. Maybe Les made it hard on him, but he had the time to get it done and he didn't. Now Les is taking matters into his own hands and making things worse. But this was inevitable given the lack of results; championships are what matter, not merely staying competitive from year to year. If he does leave, he'll get another job quickly; and I'd love to see what he could do if he was actually given an opportunity to build a winner without the restrictions Les put on him.
In reality, I think this may be the best thing for his brand depending how the offseason goes. Sticking this out for another mediocre year will nearly destroy him in the public's eye, whereas he could resign and look relatively unscathed now. Just please no 20 page drama queen letter blaming everyone else like Hinkie.
It doesn't make much sense for him to stay with this organization any longer. Im not a fan of Morey, but he'll never be able to do his job (fully) with this organization going further. Maybe he never had the full freedom he wanted, but theres no way he's naive enough to not see the power he's lost. Time to move on.
He'd be a full-on GM somewhere. The rest of the league isn't as stupid as some fans around here are. <BR>
Why should he resign now? It would be the ultimate cowardly move. This egotistical front runner is mainly responsible for this mess we are in starting from hiring McFail to coddling James Harden to his mediocre drafting to giving bad contracts to instituting a style of play where we jack 3's with some of the worst brickers around
Maury has officially reached Rick Smith Status I am now beginning to wonder if it is indeed his mess After this coaching hire. . . I am wondering how much say Maury has in anything Rocket River
Yeah I get that feeling too. I think the writing was on the wall after this season. This move solidifies it in my mind because it's so blatantly evident that the owner just took over the process completely. That means he no longer trusts his GM. And that means it's over for Morey in Houston.
If I'm Morey I already went to indeed and typed in "NBA GM" to see what's out there. Not leaving just yet, but knowing that I will before too long. Similarly if I'm Harden I put a reminder in my calendar in 18 or so months to tell the Rockets "trade me or I'm walking."
People act as if he's not apart of the shannagins HE created. Plus if Morey did resign that would give us a opportunity to restore the great reputation we once had
