I don't know how true that is in the NHL. From comments I've been hearing it sounds like many in the NHL are moire excited about winning gold for their country than a Stanley Cup for their team.

I'd rather win an NBA championship than a gold medal on team usa. But, if I was an international on a lesser known team, I'd rather win a gold (simply because I enjoy being an upsetting underdog).

For something like Tae Kwon Do or Judo which I actually did, I'd take a gold medal simply because there's very little recognition of "champions" and I don't even think there's a unifying body in most forms of martial arts.

They say for hockey, gold medals > Stanley cups which I find interesting. I guess it's because the NHL isn't very popular and there's less of a gap between the NHL and foreign leagues (versus, say, the NBA and Euroleague)

I'm not sure what that really tells us, though - he had Olympic success, so of course that wouldn't be a lament. If he had won 3 NBA titles but lost in the Olympics, his biggest lament would likely have been not winning an Olympic gold.

This question is so damn broad there are many ways you can dice it.

Depends on who you ask, where they live, what they want it for, etc.

A Major league team championship would be great in America. An Olympic gold is acquired on an international scale which has more global significance as you are competing against the best in the world. Too many variables here.

Just answer it for yourself based on your educated opinion, not for others.

I would rather win a medal than be a role player on a championship team. I want whichever one make ME the best at what I do. Being the best player on a championship NBA team is as good as a medal I think.

If it's a sport that matters, national championship. If it involves skiing and shooting guns, Olympic gold.

I think the personal satisfaction of winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics in an individual sport probably outweighs anything that can be done as a team (perhaps outside of winning the FIFA World Cup), so I'd lean towards that. As an individual, the amount of personal sacrifice one makes to hone their craft well enough to be considered the best in the world is something very, very few people can understand. I'd want to be part of that fraternity, even if it doesn't necessarily come with all of the financial trappings of winning a professional sports championship.

With all that being said however, nothing would ever beat the feeling of winning a Super Bowl with the Texans, a championship with the Rockets, or a World Series with the Astros.

Now if the Olympics were in Russia, it'd be cool to win it in Tennis.

You would be world carpet court champion.
