on a side note, I saw JVG on the plane to raleigh durham today. I assume he was here for the Duke Davidson game, but I didn't get to talk to him.
That's hard to say...JVG's team was really inconsistent in terms of lineups over his four years. Yao missed 88 games. Tracy missed 66 games. The supporting cast around the big Two constantly shifted every year as players retired, were traded etc. He dealt with A LOT of shifting lineups and still managed to come up with some good seasons.
If there was a virtual "What if" word I would bet money he would be doing better than Adelman. For starters there would be far less layups than there are now. Opponents would have to win or lose from 15 feet out to win. I believe so many easy layups are giving our opponents confidence in the rest of their offensive game. JVG made sure to take that away from you and lots of team showed their true color by collapsing once you took their offense away because they wouldn't have anywhere the defense you did.
For the defense and to motivate TMac. JVG kept TMac playing hard, if not all the time. But Thibodeux wouldnt come with him.
Maybe. I guarantee the effort would be there every night. Can you say that Adelman has produced the same consistent effort and intensity?
The only think I know is the team won 55 last year....and 22 in a row. Let's see how they pull together after this slump. If Tmac can not get over the weakness in his knee and Artest and Battier can not get healthy either it won't matter. DD
Yes, and all the stupid ****s on this board did nothing but call for him to be fired. I still can't believe we fired JVG so we could replace him with a worse coach.
Red flags should go up every time someone says this
It took 22 wins in a row for us to be the 4th seed??
That type of thing has only happened twice in NBA history!!
where is the 3rd poll option - "i'm not sure"? since that's what i want to click on. i had always thought adelman was a true offensive genius. now after a year and a half, i'm not so sure. or i think so to a much less extent, to say the least. but it's too early to call for his head. with the current in-and-out roster, though much deeper than jvg's, i'm not sure if any seasoned coach could've done any better. jvg is gone as a coach, at least for a while. he's enjoying his espn life now. and this won't change until his daughter is out of high school. people have to realize that. in reality, there is no possibility for him to be back to coach the rockets this year or even next year.
I voted yes. I miss his fire and his ability to motivate players, he had an ability to motivate TMac and Yao. I don't think I've ever seen Adelman get up off the bench and scream "get back, get back" in transition. Only thing I didn't like about JVG was that he never played his young players, Wafer, Brooks and Landry would have gotten limited playing time.
But he did better than him... with inconsistency in the lineup. He did a much better job with team chemistry... injuries or not. He got more out of less talent... injuries or not. He got more out of Yao... injuries or not. He took the crappy parts he was dealt and made them into contributers (Juwon, Weatherspoon, back-ache Sura, miniscule Wesley)... injuries or not. And maybe most important... he looked like he CARED, and had the passion/desire to win every game... injuries or not. Honestly, what does Adelman really have to gain by coaching this team up? Is he really craving that championship anymore? He likely knows his best chances went up in smoke when Sacramento got burned by Horry... does anybody think that 7 years later, he still has that sort of burning desire??? The one thing JVG did not have was a GM that was a savvy as Morey in terms of constantly being able to add talent to this team. A JVG team with Scola and Artest ALONE would be infinitely more fun to watch than this bunch right now.
Who were JVG's "younger" players??? Head played, V-Span played initially... then decided to nail his own coffin. I think he would be playing Landry more this year.... and he probably gets more out of him defensively than Adelman is. He would lean on Scola a little more as well. Brooks, however, would be a big if.... and right now, he's looking like a tweener that will always show some flashes, but ultimately may be too small to make it in this league (like that short Denver player). Wafer is getting limited playing time now... only getting some minutes after three guys in front of him get hampered by injury.
I don't think JVG would have any better of a record coaching our inconsistent team. The pieces don't fit......especially without Battier.... This slump should shut up all the people who undervalue Battier, he makes the team SOOOOOOOOOOO much better.... DD
IMO, our team was more cohensive at JVG' time. Our defense has gone ,and still can't see where our offense is. It seems that adelman has lost control of Tmac.
