So, let's be clear. Do you believe both Brooks and Martin help our team more than Melo could in place of one of them?
I'd trade Brooks it's not necessary to have a 20-5 PG we can be contenders with a good passer handler PG who scores 6 points/game, and plays good defense Martin though is irreplaceable
Both have capable backup's and Buddinger's ability to slide to the 2 probably gives them a little more depth at the 2 guard, but I would still say Brooks. As has been mentioned, Brooks is due a big payday...Lowry already got his. It's going to get expensive to maintain that combo of PG's and Lowry is ready to start. Financial considerations tip the scale in an otherwise even comparison (provided the Rockets are able to find at least an NBA caliber back-up PG).
It is essential that we keep our core players , including Brooks & Martin! What use would it be getting a disgruntled Melo and destroying our team chemistry in the process!! Remember Melo is not going to be the selfish star he was with the Nuggets, he is going to produce less points as an effective role player on a team with a healthy Yao Ming as it's star
I like Martin better.. but trading him makes the Lee trade make sense. Lee can start with other players sharing 2guard backup minutes. If we trade Brooks and Lowry starts then we'd only have Ishmeal to backup the point.
For me, I'd rather give up neither of these guys.. I feel like Denver is really going to blow up and start all over again and what's better to start with than expirings and draft picks? We have more draft picks than the other teams for next two years than the other teams. So I would start with a trade that centers around Shane (expiring) + Jeffries (expiring) + J.Hill (Lottery pick) + rights to swap with NY (just to spite them) + NY 2012 pick + whatever draft picks we have for 2011 and 2012. That gives us a chance to go all in while giving Denver a fresh start... Though I admit I won't like the defense but we can be the NO Saints of basketball with AB Martin Melo Scola and Yao as a starting five (credit to some radio caller).
Brooks is my favorite current Rocket, but if I'm being honest with myself Martin brings slightly more to the team with his ability to get to the free-throw line.
I think Denver would want Martin...so i will give up Martin. And it makes sense because our lineup still pretty good with: Brooks Melo Battier Scola Yao Lowry LEE Budinger Patterson Miller If they
If we could get Lawson (not sure of his contract situation though) in addition to Melo, I would rather trade away Brooks....with Melo, Martin and Yao, we would need a guy like Lowry to distribute more and be a "true" point guard in comparison to Brooks...if we were to get Lawson, then Lowry moves to the starting pg position and Lawson as his back up... Also, right now we have brooks on his rookie contract and when that it is up he's going to want significantly more (whether or not he would be worth it is another question) and we have lowry locked up for a decent amount time...with the CBA coming up, it would be beneficial to move brooks, which is something DM is taking into consideration...
Depends who we get in return. If we were to get Chris Paul, then I'd be more willing to part with Brooks. For Anthony, then definitely K-Mart. I like Brooks better on this team overall, but given those situations (the two main superstars on the market right now), that's what I'd prefer.
Last Speed kills. Lakers' PGs (Fischer and Blaker) aren't really post up guys, more like spot up shooters.
Definitely Brooks by far. The problem is that I think Denver is going to ask for BOTH Brooks and Martin. It might make sense for Denver to start rebuilding and want to do a: Melo/Billups for Brooks/Martin but it would be pretty tricky to make the salaries match.
