Oh good, we're in the realm where we can cherry pick stats. Well in that case, he's a far better shooter than Brooks too, since Brooks flukey distance 39% 3 point shooting last year is not validated by his prior mediocrity, which is more along the lines of vintage Rafer - and I can cherry pick in Lowry's 2009 numbers, which gives him a big edge over Brooks. Let's face it, it basically becomes addition by subtraction at that point. Goodbye aaron!
There is no way you let Martin go for Anthony, and if you let Brooks go, you better get Billups back.
Unfortunately it would be Brooks. Who's the better distributor, Brooks or Lowry? Lowry is. A team that includes Yao, Anthony, Scola, and Martin will need a distributor, not a play maker.
I also wouldn't mind Billups but the Money doesn't add up. Billups and Melo make a little over $30 million combined. that's too much of salary to cover even with Jeffries, Battier, Pat, Hill, AB and even Hayes included in the deal.
That would be very dumb to be honest. You gut the team of all youth and depth. If your proposal works then it's great. I think JT can contribute on this team.
You would seriously make the decision whether or not to do such a deal dependent on whether Taylor, Harris and Johnson are included? (remember, we would keep Chase) I'd be much more concerned about whether we could find an agreement for them to cut Battier and Hayes and to get them back.
Brooks hands down... Brooks has reached his peak, he's more a shooting guard than a point guard, in the 4th quarter the guys plays 1 on 5 and misses a lot, his defense or lack of it will never improve and he is not getting any taller.. Also the Rockets will not be able to afford Brooks once his contract is up.. Martin gets to the line a lot, Martin can shoot, Martin goes to the basket, Martin can create his own shot... I heard he put on a few lbs or muscle for the upcoming season so he should be stronger and hopefully will stay injury free.
I would Trade Brooks. With a line up of Yao, Scola, Melo, Martin and Lowry WE would live on the FT line. Sure our Games would be boring, but all those FT. Will get our opponents in foul trouble, and it would make crusing to victory that much easier. and if the refs are not calling fouls and screwing us over. Hey we got two elete scores in the line-up they'll find a way.
I'm fine with trading either one the Nuggets want. The biggest issue would be making sure we have a better defender/decent scorer slide in their place. Getting Billups would make us a championship caliber team. If we could even pull off a deal in which we keep Brooks and Martin, I'd hate to see those guys attempt to defend the Heat or Lakers or any other team with a star guard.
Martin is soft and injured easily. I don't know why anyone would trade him over Brooks for that reason alone. After dealing with Tracy and Yao for the past 1/2 decade, I'll take a less injury prone player any day any night.
Brooks. Martin, when on, is a legit superstar in his own right. Problem is, the Nuggets wouldn't accept that because they already have their PG of the future in Lawson, and probably don't need another one.
Personally, I would hate to lose either. However, if one or the other has to go, I would keep Martin. Brooks may be fast, but he is small and not very strong, which makes him as much of a defensive liability as Martin. Lowry is a better defender and penetrator, and the loss of offensive power (Lowry replacing Brooks) is negated by Kyle's distribution skills. Martin and Anthony, playing together, would give defenses fits, especially in combination with Yao and Scola. Double teaming leaves a powerful scorer wide open unless the opposing PG leaves Lowry completely open for drives. The scoring opportunities would be further enhanced by Adelman's ball movement style. I'm not a fan of Melo, but the Rockets would be potent.
Me too, but I am on the fence about him as a winner...... I would still take the chance, but only if you can get him for expirings, picks and a few young players, none of our core, .....except Shane, he would have to go in the deal. DD
I wouldn't mind giving up either one. If we were to give up Brooks though, we need to find a way to get Lawson as well.
