if they would be willing to take boki instead of pike...ad some cash and a couple of second round picks (they won't give up a #1) then we have a deal.
Last time we played Utah, they talked about personel, and Bill and Calvin stated that Sloan has said he coaches the players he is given. He essentially stays out of personel decisions.
Hmn. I should have looked at this thread sooner. I proposed something similar to this elsewhere. However, would it go down as offered? No. My idea: Steve Francis + Bostjan Nachbar to Washington. Gilbert Arenas + Jared Jeffries to Utah. Andrei Kirilenko + Carlos Arroyo + Brevin Knight to Houston. Brevin Knight is a throw-in to Houston because Utah can absorb about 10 million extra in salaries but no more; and Washington has to move out that contract due to Arenas' BYC status. We have the trade exception and even then, my trade probably would barely need it. It would upset Steve to be traded unless it is to his hometown. (think: Starbury) Arenas wanted to stay out on the West Coast anyway. I don't see much of a coast in Salt Lake City, but Utah isn't luring the brothers. At all. As someone mentioned, I don't think Utah would want Steve. He wouldn't like being sent to Utah (I can't speak for Arenas). Besides, would you want to face Steve four times a year and then maybe again in the playoffs? This is what our team would look like: 5) Yao 4) Cato 3) AK-47 2) Cat 1) Arroyo frontcourt backups: Maurice Taylor, Clarence Weatherspoon swingman backups: JJ, Pike, A-Griff point guard backups: Wilks, Knight (or Ward, if we get him) I know this is unlikely at best, but I would much rather have AK-47 and Arroyo. They have basketball smarts.
Jesus H. Christ... Threads like this are the reason I don't spend much time in the GARM forum. Anyone who would consider trading Francis for Andrei freaking Kirilenko has got to be mental. The only reason Kirilenko looks good this year is because he plays for the Jazz, who have hardly anybody else with talent. Put him on a good team like the Rockets and he's a 15 pt./5 reb type of guy; certainly not someone worth trading away a franchise player for. I'm no Francis fanboy and I actually wouldn't mind seeing him traded, but good god, we should at least get someone of equal talent in return, not some overachieving stiff who is having a decent year on a crappy team.
I wouldn't do this trade, but I am getting increasingly frustrated by CD's lack of willingness to pull the trigger on a deal. Look at what NY is doing for crying out loud. We are getting out manuvered again if we let them pick up Rasheed. Excuse the pun, but this isn't Rocket science. Francis is not working out in the JVG world of basketball. Trade him, MO Taylor, and whatever portion of the trade exeption that is needed for Rasheed and find a way to get Ward in here to run this team. Perhaps add Mark Jackson as a backup. PG - Ward, Wilkes SG - Mobley, Pike SF - Jackson, Boki, A. Griffin PF - Wallace, Cato, Weatherspoon, Padgett C - Yao, Cato, Wallace Imagine a point guard who can run a JVG offense. Imagine a high low game with Wallace and Yao dominating the half court game. Imagine a return to greatness. CD, I'm begging you...
I am not sure I agree with this. AK seems to be a smart player that gives a ton of effort. These things cannot always be coached. Just look at our team, physically we match up with ALL the teams in the league, but for some reason we play frequently with little to no focus. I like AK also because he is a strong defender and a good shooter. I think we can all agree the team is an inconsistent shooting team at best. Also, I was discussing this trade with a buddy, and I was thinking would Utah do it. I think they would if we wanted to for 2 reasons- 1. I think alot of us get on SF and may be down on him, but you will not read an article from a national source that speaks badly about him. I think he has more trade value then most of us think. 2. Utah could not recruit a top FA this offseason despite all their cap space. I think SF could help them in this regard. If they had SF as their 2, and he was able to help them recruit a strong 4 - they could be a tough team next year. BTW, I also like the idea of a 3 way trade with the Wizard. Sending SF to east would probably be best for all involved.
I like the players you mention a lot, but I wouldn't trade SF for anybody at this point. SF is like Hakeem in that we are constantly building a team around him in search of a championship. It may seem unlikely, but unless it all falls apart, I think there is a chance he'll retire here. Hakeem wasn’t the great all around player that he was until about his 7th or 8th year. This team is improving and despite what our eyes tell us, I think SF is too. This team could be at the top in a couple of years when Shaq slows down. I’m optimistic.
HAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE.... AK is a decent starter, he will never be a franchise player or an all-star... Steve will always be a much better player then AK!
hell no you dont do that trade, why is everyone trying to get rid of francis, did you see the knick game last night. unlike mobley francis is an all star, and is finally adjusting to jvg system. yeah take out francis and add mobley and i would do it.
Francis is the FRANCHISE...as much as I like kirilenko's play, I wouldn't swap him for anyone except maybe Kidd. Trade anybody else you want for AK47 but not Steve. Steve can only get better within JVG's system and the Rockets would be making a mistake trading him now.
