I do the same thing, for the same reason. Also, I like having CDs with lyric inserts and stuff.

No. With the amount of mp3s I download, it would be cheaper to just buy the CDs off of Amazon.

Unfortunately you are in the decided minority. Most people appear to be ok with the "radio" quality of most P2P d/l-ed MP3s. Of course, these are the same set of people who d/l talent black holes like Titney Spears.

BTW, I also use the internet to sample before I buy. I get my MP3s from the usenet news groups versus P2P. I am finding Usenet preferable. It only has the MP3s that are posted and requires some patience to get what you want. The MP3s are of better quality (192 versus 128 P2P standard.) What is the best feature is that you get to know the taste of the newsgroups and its posters. This makes sampling bands you never heard less of an exercise of futility. I have found quite a few new-to-me bands which really rock :)

I have been a usenet junkie for years..

the cool thing about usenet...is that if they post incomplete songs or ones that are crappy quality...they normally get flamed.

There is a standard there....in a lot of the better groups..they consider 192 as crap..256 or better is the norm.

also...the posters there seem to have a wider variety of tastes..and if you dont see what you are looking for...just ask..if someone has it, they will normally post it.

And you usually see the entire CD posted, all with proper ID3 tags.

I just can't see going back to P2P, except for an occasional Paris Hilton vid ;)

    :)

The Usenet is just a fancy name for news groups. If you know how to read news groups then all you need is a news group reader program like Agent that can handle muti-threaded binary attachments.

BTW Free Agent will do the trick for 30 days and then in theory you have to buy Agent or re-install Free Agent (or find a registration key generator out on the Jaurez sites).

Once you get going in your news reader, do a search for news groups containing "mp3" and you should soon be swimming in mp3s :)

one other caveat to that bit of info about usenet..

most ISP newsservers suck at completion and retention of binaries...in order to really get the most out of it..go with a premium newsservice...(ie, Giganews,Newsguy,Altopia)

just do a google of "premium news servers"

well worth the money of you are into that type of thing.

I also suspect that the Usenet would be a good source for p*rn videos.

I now use allofmp3.com, and I love it. I'm not sure it's wholly legal (download albums for less than a dollar!?!?), but so far, so good. The site itself is easy to use, and the audio quality is top-notch. The selection is very good, too.
