Well, according to Feigen and his sources the plan if we get Bosh is also to match the offer for Parsons. So this means it can be done.
We didn't over pay for Lin, he was making a shade over 5 mil a year for 2 seasons. Now that he's going to make 15 mil next year, we are looking to ship him off. Parsons is a side piece, not a max player!!!!
Why give Parsons 15m/year? There are plenty above and below that have similar production that could be had for far less (list does not even include high potential rookies)
If we get Bosh or another real max player, yes, go over the cap and keep him. I'm not sure how Harden will feel about getting less money than ****ing Parsons, but if it doesn't kill chemistry and Les doesn't care about his money, then sure, keep him. If we don't get Bosh (or another big FA), no way in hell, unless there's a trade including him (and his ridiculous contract) already in place. Matching Parsons without signing someone else first would basically mean we have last year's roster except with no Asik, Lin, or cap flexibility. Why would you tie up the next 3 years of the franchise (aka the entire duration of Harden and Howard's contracts) to that horrible situation? Parsons is pretty much Eric Gordon now. He's pretty good, but not worth his contract in cap space. The only reason to have him is if you've already got a good team in place and are going into the luxury tax and don't care.
I don't think he's worth $15M per and Morey wouldn't like a player's option for a role player. I like his play but ughhhhhhhhh.
Yeah but if they don't get Bosh in a S&T they lose their exceptions and with no cap room they might as well match. It's that or Francisco Garcia is a starter. If LeBron holds this up till Saturday, I'd say match Parsons, keep Asik, deal Lin to create some space and sign Ariza and Hill with the cap space/MLE Then look to deal future picks, Asik, etc in deals for above average bench types or save it all for the trade deadline when Parsons is available to be dealt and go for a Love or whatever great players emerge.
It's a terrible contract, but I'm leaning toward matching. We could try to spend that money next offseason instead, but who wants to waste another year of Howard/Harden while waiting for a free agent? Try to sign Bosh or another FA before matching on Parsons, but whatever the outcome, match and keep trying to add talent with exceptions, trades, and drafts to the extent the payroll burden allows to maximize the contention window. If we don't match, we step back talent-wise in a way that will take probably 2-3 years' worth of MLEs to recover.
