We’re not good enough to win with embiid, and it would take a whole lot more than just sengun to get joel

It wouldn't be straight up for Embiid and he'd probably want at least a "win-now" max player just to even talk of an extension for his 33 yr old self.

I'd rather watch these kids grow.

Maybe a more honest topic would be for Joker who is one year younger...

I'm behind on the discussions outside of this board. Does Clutch not like Sengun?

What? o_O How is this even a question?

Embiid is the MVP. He probably has at least 4 seasons left of MVP level play. The Rockets should be able to build something around him within those years. We'd be so much better now if it was a player for player trade. I don't get the question. o_O

In a vacuum Sengun as the centerpiece for an Embiid trade makes sense. Sengun is not worth enough by himself, but in combination with picks and salary filler, sure, that's about the level of young player you look for when trading away a top 5 player.

However I don't think it makes sense for either team right now. Philly is contending this season and Maxey's elevated play might be enough to keep Embiid there.

For the Rockets, we don't have the pieces to surround Embiid with and make a championship run right away. So unless there was a second trade lined up to get another high-level star I don't see it for us either.

But like, fishing to be like "Sengun is clearly more valuable" is kinda silly. Embiid's MVP award is a bit bogus, clearly should have gone to Jokic in hindsight, but he is still right up there. You're not getting a guy like that without giving up some great young talent unless there are extenuating circumstances (no trade clause, guy is definitely about to leave in free agency, etc).

Wasn't this already asked in the off season? Like almost the exact same thread? If Embiid can't win with Harden and Maxey then he can't win with whatever we'll have left. It's just not our timeline.

Is this just a "compliment my favorite player" fishing thread? If so that's really really corny.

Like, you can have your opinions about Embiid being soft or injured too much or "not clutch" or whatever. You can have a stronger attachment to Sengun and even believe we're more likely to win a championship down the road by holding onto Alpi. That's all fine.

But there's no denying Embiid is a top 5 player and probably top 3, still at the height of his powers. Regardless of personal feelings and subjective beliefs, that's concrete and virtually impossible to dispute, and that in turn makes Joel Embiid one of the most valuable trade assets in the league.

To be like "it's crazy to trade Sengun for him" is just silly. At the same time I still wouldn't do it because I think Embiid would just ask to be traded again in short order unless we can quickly pair him with another star, but it has nothing to do with the value proposition.

Pros: 1) we immediately become a playoff team 2) Media attention.
Cons: We won't go past conference semi finals since he isn't a winner.

He's basically just another Harden. Cameronean Harden.
