Yes, Rackers missed a 47 yarder earlier in the game, the Texans defense was dominating the 4th quarter. Washington paid the price for going for a 55 yarder: the Texans ended up with great field position.

Defense wins championships. Offense wins championships. And when the game is on the line and you have time to get the ball back and give yourself a better shot, you do it.

Do you "play to win" if it was a 56-yarder? A 60-yarder?

At what point does kicking a FG turn from "playing to win" to "being stupid"?

52 yards is a long kick, especially outdoors when there is wind.

But to answer the question, no I wouldn't have blamed him had Rickers missed it. You play to win the game. With that said, it ended up being the right call so kudos to him.

When you know it's out of your FG kicker's range. Apparently Kubes felt it was out of Rackers' range, and also Rackers passed a kidney stone earlier in the week. So if all were true, then I got no problem with Kubes calling for the punt (but he could have gone for it, having the most prolific offense at his helm.)

The end of regulation playcalling when the offense took over with less a minute left is still a head scratcher.
