See that's it right there! She'll always be refered to as the "match.com gal!"

That plain sucks. I guess there's still a social stigma attached to meeting someone online. You're either thought of as a freak or a loser. Either way, I personally don't think I want to deal with explaining to ppl who don't understand that meeting someone online is totally normal. Of course, I shouldn't care about what ppl think, but I do.

I don't have any online prospects, but if I did, it would end there.

If your speech is as bad as your grammar, maybe we've just found out why you aren't getting lucky.

I always heard that "The Graduate" with Dustin Hoffman and featuring the classic Simon and Garfunkel song, "Mrs. Robinson" was a classic movie. Oh well, to each his own.

    :D ;)

has anyone ever heard of craigslist?

it was a site started by a guy in San Francisco named (surprise!)
craig who wanted to link people together. it has expanded to nearly every major city in the country.

houston and austin are small, but rising.

    go to

www.craigslist.org and surf your cities' site.

everything from classified ads, apartment listings, personals, job listings, musicians networks and much more.

    i swear by http://newyork.craigslist.org

i found my apartment and i also screened my film and made 50 bucks in the process.

BUT I HAVENT MET A LIVE HUMAN BEING YET

My mom has dated several guys who she met online. She's even seeing on seriously.

I don't see how it can be much worse than picking up some random person in a bar or club or something.

After coming to the US, meeting and staying with a bunch of people based on internet/cc.net contact, I would say my view on the subject has definitely changed. I used to think No way, but now i would say it is certainly possible and just another way of meeting people, sure there are drawbacks like 'what do they look like' and 'are the really like there online personality?' but if you don't rush in and take some intermediate steps like phone calls and sharing pics (and private investigators) before meeting success is certainly possible via the information super highway.

I also met my wife online so I'd say go for it. We dated for 2 1/2 years and now we're going on our 4th wedding anniversary.

I love telling the story (and would love to share it again but I'm at work and need to go home - maybe later) and don't feel any stigma at all as far as how we met. In fact, most people are surprised and think it's really cool when we tell them.

Why would he care? He is going to marry his own match.com gal.

I know what you mean about the "stigma". We just tell people we met through "friends" and laugh about it afterwards. You can be worried about other people think but I found the love of my life this way. After a few emails we talked on the phone and met the same way "normal" people do. What would have been the difference if a friend had set me up and told me to call her and we talked over the phone before meeting? It's the same thing, except in this case I knew a little more about her first and she knew some things about me.

I met mine through a site called American Singles but that was when it was a free service run on donations from happy users (sound familiar?). Now it looks like a big shot, publicly traded company so I don't know what it's like anymore.

Hey, I admit it was still a crap shoot -- like meeting anyone anywhere. But, as Smeg pointed out... exchange a few emails, a few phone calls, then meet somewhere in person (a bar, dinner, whatever) and see if there's anything there. Maybe, maybe no. Sometimes there's sparks, often there isn't.

My wife and I both went through a few useless dates before we found each other. Still beat the hell out of the meat markets or 3 lines of acronyms in the newspaper.

I would say school. Consider going back to college, depending on how old you are. I did so at age 23 (I'm 27 now) and I'm married to a woman seven years my junior. When you're an older guy at college, you are a definite catch because:
    A. you know how to treat a lady
    B. you have more money and dress better than your fellow male students, many of whom are just out of high school.
    C. As Jack Palance said, "Confidence is very sexxxxxy." When you're a former Marine who's dodged bullets, rapelled out of helicopters, and mastered shooting and looting, the dating game is easy.....
You'd be surprised, especially at commuter schools, how many middle-aged folks are going back to school to improve their standing in life. That's my .10.

Im a college kid so Im surrounded by beautiful women constantly, getting a date during the schoolyear is no problem, and I bet most college guys have no problem also(sigh I cant wait till august). But come _____ when I graduate and get my career started and Im not in a serious relationship than Id defintely use the internet to try to meet some good women. Its a good way to easily find out what their interest's are before you even meet. I see it as kind of like a blind date but you sortive know the person, similar to when a friend hooks you up and tells you that yall are pretty similar and might have some fun together.
