We should just try and have both QB's on the roster and do a 2QB x 2 team set on offense. Peyton/Tate/AJ, Schaub/AF/AJ, Peyton/AF/AJ, Schaub/Tate/AJ and rotate by how hot the first group is playing.. keep everyone fresh and everyone happy since theres not really a #1.. it will promote friendly competiton like this year with AF/Tate.

yeah I know.. sounds stupid. (but it's gonna be a looooong offseason)

Yeah, team chemistry was a huge problem last year...

Our biggest problem last year was the lack of a healthy QB. So how do we solve that problem? By bringing in one with a FUSED NECK, of course!

Wow, some ppl in this thread....

Look, Peyton Manning would complement Arian Foster and Ben Tate perfectly. He is already older and it wouldn't be a good idea to make him throw 600+ times anyway. They would still run the ball and use play action, but they would be 100x more efficient with the passing game.

And the team chemistry ****? Really? I know our guys like Schaub and would stand up for him. But if it's Peyton Manning they aren't gonna start throwing a fit. They want to win. Period.

A big downside to this is that it means we probably can't keep Mario and we would probably have to trade Schaub. But who knows, maybe that is a good thing. In the end there is no way the front office will go for it. Rick Smith and Bob McNair have a rabid fetish for Schwiggity Schaub and he'll be the starter next season. So the real issue now is re-signing Arian and Mario. They need to keep both.

strange how it's a given that manning, who had never missed a game before last season, will never be able to hold up healthwise again, and it's a given that matt schaub, who is also coming off a career-threatening injury and is pretty much the most injury-prone qb in the league, will definitely be able to make it through the season, and suddenly isn't much of a health-risk.

Translation: Manning, who has never suffered a career-ending injury until last season, ...

He's done. D-O-N-E. He may catch on with another team but probably won't make it to the regular season opener before officially calling it a career.

Again, if it were 2009, I'd be right there with you, cardpire. Let's go get him. But it's not 2009.

    A) 36 years old, 3 neck surgeries (cervical fusion).

    B) 31 years old, sprained ankle, torn MCL, sprained shoulder, and a broken foot.

I'll go with option B, please.

A linsfranc fracture is serious business (given the degree of the break, which we don't know), but for a QB, it isn't nearly as problematic. The rest of those injuries could have happened (and typically do) to anybody.

isn't this thread supposing manning (and schaub) are able to play, anyway?

would be interesting if this trade title was "Would you go after Drew Brees?".

i'm guessing the responses would be exactly the same, minus the injury talk. people would rather have matt schaub because he's "our guy". i get it. but it shows a high degree of insanity, and a low degree of objectivity.

Given that they're both completely healthy, I still want Schaub.

Why? Because he's cheaper and younger.

We'll be more competitive spending that extra money on our bigger problems, and we'll be competitive for a longer amount of time as well.

It's not just that Peyton's older, it's that he's too old. The Texans are a young team. They have at least a 5 year window. Schaub should be able to play all five of those years. If his fused neck doesn't hamper him, Peyton will have 3 quality years left, tops.

Thanks for clarifying that. Oh, and you're crazy.

Also, even if being "competitive for a longer amount of time" was a 100% fact with schaub over manning, what does it matter? do you think that peyton gives us a better chance of winning a super bowl in the short-term? or do you refuse to believe that either? This city has won 2 major championships. i'd gladly trade not being competitive for a while for winning a super bowl in the next 3 years. not to say we can't with schaub, but we will be consensus favorites to do so with a healthy manning.

you are assuming that schaub will definitely be able to play 4 years from now, and you are assuming that we would be forced to start the dregs of the qb world if schaub or peyton weren't our qb 4 years from now.

Much, much different situation. Brees is still in his prime, has played well in a run-first offense, isn't a statue, and doesn't have a fused neck. Brees could be plugged into the Texans offense as is and make it better, and would be around for a while.

That is the assumption, but it's infinitely more likely than Peyton being able to play 4 years from now.

nope, not infinitely, but more importantly, why the hell would you worry about what's going to happen 4 years from now anyway?

seems like winning a super bowl in the next 3 years is infinitely more important.

I believe we have a better shot at winning a Superbowl with Matt Schaub playing QB over a span of 6-7 years here than we do with Peyton Manning playing QB for 2-3 years here.

And when you factor in the cost and health issues, it become an even more lopsided argument.

I'm confident we can win and win big with Schaub. Sure we'd probably have a better chance with Peyton, but I'm not willing to sell out the future of the team for that. Especially given the risk and cost involved.

Now... if we could trade Schaub for big gains and sign Peyton to a reasonable contract with him 100% healthy... then we might have something to talk about.

If you think Schaub's prime will last 3 more years you are fooling yourself. Well maybe if he gets hurt and misses 7 games a year for 6 years....

P Manning and Schaub have similar numbers in 2009 and 2010. The biggest dfference? Schaub was sacked 57 times...Manning 26.
