Nah. He'd never re-sign with us because (A) he'll ask for waaay more than he's worth, a la Beltran, and (B) he wants to play 2nd base.

Sorry, but Burke looks like the second coming of Craig Biggio to me. If he only ends up being 3/4 as good as Biggio, I still don't want to trade a young talent like that for a rent-a-player.

    wow... what a great question...

soriano for two months would be worth roughly 15 HRs and 35-40 RBIs (based on '06 pace) + playoffs (in theory). to get that, it'll cost you $5M plus top prospects. let's say two plus burke. and there's a 0% he'll resign....

and on top of all that, he guarantees you nothing.

i don't think i could do it, either. if they had taken 3 of 4 from StL like they should have, rather than waking the sleeping giant, and the division was still within striking distance, i'd say yes. but with the cards pulling away... giving up too much for soriano in a crapshoot of a plyoff push is too high a price, imo.

If you don't sign Soriano, you gets two draft picks. The team he signs with first round pick and a sandwhich pick.

    1. Soriano does have impressive numbers that's for sure. I just don't want him if I have to give up Burke.

    2. Burke plays his heart out with no fear and gives 110%. He is the heir to Biggio's throne. He would make the perfect career Astro. I know he's not a homer-guy like Soriano but his BA is just as impressive (although I think judging a player on BA is not a good idea)

Oh yeah, and looking at a fantasy comparison, Soriano is #1 on Burke's list.

You don't necessarily get a first round pick. It depends on who signs him. For example, the Astros did not get a first round pick when Beltran signed with the Mets even though he was a Type A player. They received the 38th pick (compensatory) and the 89th pick (from the Mets).

A team in the bottom half of the league standings forfeits a 2nd round pick while a team in the top half forfeits a first round pick. There is even further confusion if a team signs two or more Type A players.

True but Soraino will most likely sign with a team like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Cardinals and there won't be any free agent rated higher than him.

Probably, but you can't discount those California teams that may end up in the bottom half of the league (or those free spending Brewers :) ).
