bass is an upcoming pf and looks to have a higher ceiling than landry. i like landry but i`m thinking we can find someone better through a trade.
I wouldn't do this or one smple reason. It is too big of a gamble. There would be no guarantee we would win a championship in the first year and less than a 50/50 chance Artest would stay after the year is up.
Yes, oh yes! Where do I sign and how fast can we get Artest? Highway robbery in our favor. Give peanuts for him, reduce overcrowded roster and get a complete difference maker while keeping Bjax's expiring contract? Come on, who wouldn't? We would be absolute beastly on defense too, oh man.
I love landry, but artest might score 20 to 30 plus on any given night.artest makes our defense so much better,I don't see how u could not do it.
Any GM in the league would do this deal............ No brainer, We would win the title..........handily
but it's seemingly that we will hardly be able to sign landry.Even if morey and landry himself both agree to sign, then les won't agree because of the luxury tax, which is more frightened to les than whatever is terrible in the world.just the tax will fear les away and hold our sign back
Haven't read any of the post but not only would I give up Brooks/Landry for Artest I would throw in a future 1st rounder.. Common this is ARTEST. The guy that we need to even be considered championship contenders. As of right now if were all healthy we are a tier 2 team. Good but not great. A lot of noobies on this board think we have the pieces to win it all or get close but some of you guys are day dreamers.
Though it's already been stated, I thought I'd put it all together. First (and this is a BIG first) - We cannot sign and trade Landry, so all of this is obsolete. Ok, so now assuming we could sign and trade him, I wouldn't do the deal unless we could sign Artest to an extension. If we could get him to sign the extension then yes, I'd be all over this deal. It would almost force us to move Battier though, and most likely for a PF. Pugs
Landry can not be signed and traded, but I think we can get around this issue. If the Rox work out an agreement with the Kings ahead of time, SAC can sign Landry to an offer sheet with the agreement that we dont match, assuming SAC still has their MLE which I think they do. Then the deal is restructured as Brooks and Bjax for Artest. Salaries work and SAC gets an expiring contract almost as big as Artest's would be. Basically they get Landry, Brooks, and Bjax and we get Artest. Yes, it would be a gamble, but it would also be a very high potential reward. Artest liked playing for Adelman and we would have an edge in resigning him to an extension. Also, for everyone saying that forces us to move Battier, I disagree. I think Artest can play spot min at the PF, much better then Battier was able to. Hopefully Scola plays at least 32 min a game at PF next year. Only leaves 16 min at the 4 that need covering and Artest, Hayes, and Dorsey should be able to do that. Imagine closing games out with a defensive line up of Yao, Hayes, Artest, Battier and Tmac. Or putting an offensive lineup out there of Yao, Scola, Artest, Tmac and Rafer. Plus we still have expiring contracts of Francis, Head, and Novak to try to pick up a backup PF or PG.
So a guy plays half a season and ends up injured (repeat offender in the injury category) and unwilling to get the necessary test to prove his health and you wouldn't include him in a trade for a guy that would clearly be the third best player on the team?
I do have concerns about Artest's game on the offensive end as well as his behavior but he is undoubtedly superior than a healthy Landry plus Brooks. I feel that if Ron controls himself and plays within the team concept he can help us get to the 2nd round and perhaps beyond it as well,I don't think his addition would make us a Championship team but it would be a major step in the right direction if we advanced in the playoffs. My concern is that he can't be relied upon because he feels that he has to be the number one option on offense. He is likely to ask for a guarantee for being included in the future plans of the team which the Rockets might be hesitant to do and that could lead to more problems.
