for a straight up signing... using existing space? Sure, I'd take that gamble... He's gonna be in with other lottery picks... if we get a good coach... can get all the youngsters on the same page... add a couple locker room vets... i'm more about guys with higher character and work ethic... but if we can pull him for nothing but cap space... i'd be wary - but i'd prob pull the trigger on that contract... "the process" is a good baseline to build from - but ya gotta take a few swings...
Exactly. We can afford to be patient right now, no need to make risky moves. Patience is so underrated in NBA team building
Reminds me of Kelvin Cato BUT obviously way higher ceiling. Kelvin got a big contract and played well below its value. His heart wasn’t in basketball. It was just a means to do other things in life. The concern with Zion is similar. While the upside is great assuming he could figure it out the down side seems more likely based on what we have observed so far in his short career and those injuries are a huge risk. Wouldn’t be angry with Rafa but would advise against. One things for sure this would be a defining move for him. Succeed and make a name for himself. Fail and it would take years for him to get another GM shot.
Undoubtedly tempting, but also terrifying. And I bet Jalen Green will have some pull by then. I'd like to see Banchero and Sengun more first.
No .... Hell No. I've played as many NBA games as this dude in the last calander year, no way I'm giving him max money with foot injuries that reduce mobility / explosiveness.
Do it. He already proved he is an elite player at the NBA level. Done. Elite. He fell victim to propaganda and social influence after the injuries. But all the questions on the court were not only answered, but bolded and underlined. As a rookie no less. He's from Duke too. The kid checks all the boxes. The worst outcome is that he is too injured to play. And you know what that means, more core draft picks. We aren't expected to contend. Who cares about the money. This is huge upside with literally no consequences for us.
I think you’d have to see at least one healthy season from the guy before giving him the full guaranteed max. I’d wait and see how next season plays out before doing anything. if we end up with Paolo I have a feeling he’ll make everyone forget about Zion.
Things I'd gamble on Zion: Money pool over/under on how overweight he'd show up to training camp Underwriting insurance for some big related injury Pro eating contest odds...That skinny Japanese guy better Try Harder CLAP CLAP CLAP Completing that McDonald's Monopoly Millionaire sweepstakes. **** boardwalk and park place. Homie got 3 pieces each.
6 months ago I’d have said yes all day but I have more hesitation now assuming Banchero is a Rocket. I don’t think there’s space for two guys like that on the floor, maybe I’m wrong. Still voted yes
Not really a gamble if you do not include young players... would be a gamble for potential contenders. He is a walking and dunking meme that I do not care that much about.
I dont know. Is Zion going to commit to a healthy lifestyle and lose some weight? Anyone have his TRUE current weight or his max weight when out of shape? His list weight of 285 is still high IMO and I would guess he's way north of 300 by now. Above the rim players at that weight just seem like a bad idea. If we draft Chet and sign Zion it would make for quite the polar opposites!
That’s a tough one. If it cost us nothing but a second rounder and we lose Wall in the process (sign and trade?) I’d give Zion a shot with Lucas mentoring him. Need 2 years to fully slim him down. If we can get him to a relatively light weight it will really free him from injuries. Other than that he needs work on his 3pt form. Hope he’s been working on that at least. I don’t like the professionalism he’s shown so far, we’d be hoping he grows up mentally too.
