I'd be willing to try the feaux-meat, and would continue eating it if it tasted good. I would expect that, if this takes off, it'll devastate the cattle-ranching industry and, eventually, the pork and poultry industries.
It's not red meat, or white meat, but it is the flesh of an animal, so it qualifies as meat. People like to justify it in their heads as not being 'meat eaters' I guess.
Her reasons are her own reasons, which include that book by the Baskin Robbins hippie rich kid who convinced her that the meat processing industry is 2nd only to the Third Reich on the evil scale. I'm just trying to lose weight, and eating no meat (except for fish) is a good way to stick to a strict diet. I like to a eat nice tuna sandwich for lunch. Packed with protein.
Eating fish is healthier than other meats. Refraining from eating other meats because of you don't want to harm animals but eating fish would be ridiculous. They get hooked in the face and reeled in as they gasp for air.
yeah, i wasn't trying to say it all holier than thou or anything...it's just that most people don't know what pescetarian means (though it's pretty straightforward), so it's easier to say I don't eat meat...except for fish (even though I didn't say it exactly like that!)
There are like 4 reasons people don't eat meat. 1. Unethical to kill another animal 2. Some considered certain meat are not healthy for the body 3. Religious 4. Don't like the taste and the look of blood But let just say this genetically human made meat are proven very safe, very tasty and very healthy and no animal are being harm. Would would people accept this? Maybe the word "meat" might turn people off but how about giving it a new name? Another thing would religious group who don't eat pork because it's "dirty". But how about a genetically made pork that's clean and very healthy?
I'm surprised at the degree of acceptance to this idea. I admit it sounds entirely logical, but I don't know... there's just something weird about meat grown in a lab. I don't know if I'd be able to wrap my head around that.
NO I like real meat and and I'm not afraid to kill a few animals to feed my hunger. Man was hardwired by nature to do so. Screw PETA and the rest of rubber eating monkeys!!!
Yeah. I just don't understand the whole vegetarian philosophy. Plants have some kind of biorhythm or some crap that registers that they at least are aware that they are dying/in pain... There's a difference between torturing animals and eating them.
Gasp for water you mean. Also given how precipitous fish stocks and the environmental harm caused by mass scale aqua culture, eating fish is almost as harmful to the environment as eating other animals.
Gave up "meat" about 7 months ago. Only animal I eat now is fish. Never felt better, IBS went away. Don't see myself going back.
Yet, there's a correlation, because if you're buying meat, you're likely either directly or indirectly supporting factory farming practices. That is the main reason I stopped eating meat...it stems from other political convictions of mine. Only later did I realize the other reasons to become a vegetarian, and I became firmer in why I made that decision. The thought of chewing rotting flesh now makes me sick to my stomach, and I have only been doing this for 3 or so months. I personally think that while some people see these cruel practices and feel bad about it, they try to ignore it because of their love for meat. Then they bash PETA and feel better about it. I did. Cause PETA is bat**** crazy most of the time, in their doctrine and actions. But that doesn't completely invalidate the vegetarian message of compassion. I've now realized that.
