I'd take Reggie Bush and then try to strengthen the O-line during the remainder of the draft and in free agency if possible.

David Carr is not the answer, hes an average QB. How many times have you seen him run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage? All he had to do was throw it away to avoid the loss. Also when the game was on the line last week, he was dumping short passes over the middle. Dumb. Even Dom said on the Capers show on Monday that this wasn't what they wanted with that little time left on the clock.

I agree w/ this 100%. Carr is a good quaterback and will prove it w/ help. He needs an OL.

Ah, but the coaches fate isn't just tied in to the Ws. Even if he puts in Banks or whoever and they perform qb a little better ... that really isn't going to affect the standings that much.

Capers fate is also tied to Carr. If Carr is a bust then a large portion of blame should be heaped on the coaching staff for not developing him to where he should be. I see Carr doing things in the pocket that he's been doing since his rookie year that he should have been coached not to do.

Capers is just a bad coach imo. I think with a quality coaching staff and a better oline(another wr or catching te wouldn't hurt either), we would see drastic improvements out of Carr. Not stud qb improvements, but in that direction at least.

I'm not that knowledgeable with the NFL salary cap, but if the Texans don't think he's worth the extension, why is it a given that he walks? Can't they just choose to not pick it up and then work out a contract for a lesser amount? Or can't they just renegotiate the contract or SOMEthing? I don't see where it has to be so black and white. I know it would be a blow to Carr's ego, but, whatever, I doubt he would get substantially more from somewhere else.

That's what this team has been doing over the last 4 years and it hasn't worked.

Overpaid OL Free Agents: Weigert, Wade, and McKinney
Overvalued OL Draft Picks: Wand and Weary.

I think that the only thing that should be done intially is to overhaul the o-line. Give Carr a chance behind a line that can keep him upright and see what happens. If it still isn't happening, cut your losses and move on. Casserly has got to change his attitude about not drafting lineman in the 1st round. This is a deep draft of OL and he has got to take advantage. He has also got to move on any free agent lineman available.

After that is done, a good pass catching tight end needs to also be a priority. That will help take a ton of pressure off Carr and the WR's.

Anyone who even uses the names Reggie Bush and Tony Hollings in the same sentence should be taken out back and shot. I don't care what system you're talking about. Domanick Davis has rushed for over 1000 yards twice behind this crap offensive line and you are going to tell me that Reggie Bush will play like Hollings. You obviously haven't watched Bush play one down. He's probably going to be the second best rb in the league (behind Tomlinson, maybe first) withing three years. I'm not saying that we should pick him first overall but he would be 100 times better then Hollings if you handed him the ball with no offensive line on the field.

as great as matt lienart is...he would probably be WORSE than carr with their o-line because he can't move around like carr. if they get a top pick, especially the #1, you HAVE to look to deal it for o-line and d-line help and additional top #10 pick. because face it, there are a TON of teams that would give you half their roster to get lienart.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that the whole coaching staff is going to be gone after this season, hence purging all the conservative offensive schemes...so i'd get an o-line and then if Carr still has problems, we'll probably suck in '06 also...pick a QB in the 07 draft

I still can't figure out why Hollings is still on the team. I also can't figure out why Morency hasn't had a carry yet through 3 weeks. Our entire coaching staff sucks.

    I agree with Ric.

After the Texans score 10-14 points on Sunday and lose to the Titans, Carr should be benched. Would he be better with a good offensive line - duh, of course. But he isn't leading us to the promised land. What he is doing any run of the mill average quarterback can do.

Before deciding what to do with the pick, you have to decide what to do with Carr. Unfortuntaley, the people making those decisions are the same idiots who got us in the current predicament.

Because Morency sucks. He looked good in preseason but he was another wasted pick. Babin, Buchanon (bad trade), Gary Walker deal, Tony Hollings, Joppru, Travis Johnson or Derrick Johnson, just terrible personel moves. Capers doesn't fit this team either. I would include carr on this list but it means we would have picked Joey harrington instead , who will be working at Burger king in three years

Morency can't be that bad. I want to atleast see him in a real game. He's like a wasted pick if Capers doesn't play him.

So if you do that, who exactly do you put in front of him? And if you do decide Carr isn't the answer, putting him on the bench and deflating his value even more isn't gonna help you come trade time. And never mind the fact that the offense did look better, Carr posted a 97 and change QB rating, and we probably could have come away w/ some more pts (on the 1st drive especially) if not for some costly mistakes by players NOT name Carr.
