I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a WR. After OL the biggest need on this team is a WR who can take some pressure off of Johnson. The Texans are not taking a QB unless Carr has some type of season ending injury. And I don't know whats with this Marcus Vick talk. He isn't as good as his brother and is pretty much a Michael Bishop clone. I just don't think you turn down the chance to draft the most explosive offensive player to come around since Michael Vick and you have to draft Reggie Bush if he is there.
Yeah Bush IMO is another Marshall Faulk type back. He might be a good pick, Devin Hester from Miami, maybe even Hagans from Arizona State. Casserly always says he wouldn't draft an OL real high.
yeah, wr is a big need, but if they go after one then they should sign a vet because most rookie wrs don't contribute right away. I'm not a big fan of drafting OL high either, but in the Texans situation, you almost have to. Hopefully Leinart is the next big thing if the Texans end up with the #1(they wont). That would mean teams would be beating down the door looking to trade up.
If we have the 2nd or 3rd pick, they should either take best player available and draft Bush, a bigger, stronger and faster version of Brian Westbrook, or trade down, pick up extra picks and get one of the 4 franchise LT's available.
hell ya... represent VA. TECH disclaimer: i know nothing about pro football... I do know that Vick is awesome..
Without a doubt, this is how the Texans would have to go, if they had the #1 overall pick. Ferguson is one of the rare stud LT's that comes along once every 10 or so years. He's got all the tools to be the next Boselli, Pace, or Jones. Draft him &, barring no major injuries, your left side is set for the next 10+ years.
Even though I agree w/Ric, Capers has to know his job is on the line. If he doesn't, then he lost touch with reality long time ago. He must still think he has one more year left in his 5 year plan . If it gets ugly on Sunday, they should let Ragone play.
Nah, as bad as Carr has been playing, it's still a little too early to committ another #1 or #2 pick on a QB. There are a bunch of stud offensive lineman out there, but they can be had for a lower pick.
The key is if Charlie Casserly stays. A new GM will more than likely go get "his own QB" and since a change of the guards will signify another rebuilding process - the new GM will almost clean house including Carr. So this is the way I see it - Casserly will almost not even consider giving up on Carr since it will constitute an admission of failure on his part. A new GM whowill want to fail or succeed will want to do it with his players (ego of course a part of it).
If the Texans ended up with the #1-2 pick ... they trade it for a boatload of first and second round draft picks. The Texans then draft a can't-miss-OL in the lower first round AND see if they can land an OL FA upgrade.
they're 3-9 in their last 12 with carr starting. if capers wants to save his job... well, starting carr hasn't really worked out thus far...
but they're not helping either, and that's the point. they have no impact over the course of a game. the line in a 3-4 is supposed to merely clog lanes, plug holes and free the LBs. i don't think they do a terrible job of that. i think the OLBs are just too slow, tentative, and i think the scheme is too complex. oh, i do. i won't pretend to understand the QB rating, nor do i think stats are the be all, end all, butthis came from our board and i think it's telling: additionally, from the same poster, carr has thrown for more than 200 yards just once in his last 8 games with only 6 TDs. the team is 3-5 in those games. he's a first overall selection making a lot of money. and his play hasn't personally been responsible for a victory in the team's history. think about that. sure, he's played well in games they've won (and lost). but he's never lifted this team on his back and carried it; he's rarely made plays that completely shifted a game's direction. he has been, at best, a passenger, not a driver. THAT concerns me. i'm concerned that he has no pocket presence; no awareness. i'm concerned his instincts are suspect. i'm concerned that he doesn't look off receivers. i'm concerned that he panics. i'm concerned that he can't seem to put the ball in the end zone. and yes, i'm concerned that the franchise has mishandled him beyond the point of repair. i think carr is the biggest question mark this year as we head into the offseason. they HAVE to know what they have with him. and i don't think these clowns have a clue.
Take the best player available, regardless of what position he plays. That said, it sure would be nice to upgrade the left tackle. And left guard. And center. And ...
