A team like the Knicks come to the Rockets right before the trade deadline and offer expiring contracts and their 1st round draft pick (protected for top 3 pick) for Yao Ming.

    The Rockets get:

1st round draft pick other than top 3 pick

massive cap space to sign free agents for 2010 with Mcgrady and Yao's contract gone.

    The Knicks get:

assuming Yao is healthy in 2010-11 season

    a possible all nba center

    cash cow

a bait to get Lebron or some other big name star to pair up with Yao

Do you do this trade if you are the Rockets GM?

    Jazz have the Knicks pick.

    /thread.

    Good thought though.

I would not trade Yao unless we could get another dominant big man in the draft. You need those to win rings.

^ what he said. Draft is deep though, even a 3-10th pick will land you a star. As for the trade, I'd do it just to have Yao off the books and start anew with more durable stars. But even if they had their own pick there's no way NY offers this, D' Antoni wouldn't know what to do with an immobile low post presence.

The point is to win a championship isnt it?
So we traded Yao, Tmac's gone, we landed a big time free agent...contending?One superstar surrounded by role players dont win your championship, not even close.
rebuilding? then why the heck we sign that free agent for?

deja vu over and over again.

    No thx.

If I am trading Yao, I am either getting a Wade/Kobe/Lebron or a legit post presence that fits the new running game.

LOL you're not gonna get any of those players for an injury prone big man who is certian to get injured again and is past he's prime. even if yao returns, he'll be a nothing more then an upgraded version of big Z .

Why would we take a protected pick for someone who was #1 pick...?

That NBA is long gone. The Pistons wouldve been a better example, but they're the exception. these days you need at least 2 guys

What if Yao was Michael Olawakandi? I would take a protected pick in a heartbeat.

you're stoned. if you think the current rockets team will get anywhere near the playoffs, sniff any playoff success, or even dream of a championship...you are stoned.

how much of her kool-aid did you drink?

come march you will be begging for a mass over haul of this team and adelman's head. wayo too early in the season to say this team is even remotely successful

we should all pray for team chemistry success and small successes that we can build off of next year.

100% healthy tmac next year for a full season...or a player of equal caliber....and a yao that can contribute. then we can talk

    Easy answer. NO.

Just for the fact that their biggest expiring contract is Al Harrington and Larry Huges.

Hell no, what if the pick is a bust? And why would big name free agent want to come here without Yao Ming? Rockets is still high on Yao, if Rockets decided to trade Yao: it will be a deal too good to pass up.
