TMac has the ability to get his own shot and is a good ballhandler. Wallace is a good post up player and Prince is a decent shooter, I don't think the team would gain from this trade. McGrady leads the team in assists so he manages to get his teammates involved, you won't get that many assists from Wallace and Prince. If this trade went through, Battier and Scola would be on the bench and the team would have a gaping hole at SG with just Luther Head.
How about... Hamilton, Maxiell, Stuckey, and McDyess for Tmac Would you do it? (salaries match up) http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=532~294~2775~530~3235&teams=8~10~10~10~10&te=&cash= Not too crazy about a moody 3pt shot loving big and a disappear as the game gets bigger SF.
Regardless of the TMcOF's slanting the poll, realistically the Piston's would never give up Wallace and Prince for McGrady. Wallace's expiring contract gives the Rockets ~$15m in cap space next summer. Prince is a huge upgrade over Battier as he is much better in transition O & D and Prince can actually postup. What the Rocket's are basically missing is player's that can create matchup problems. Sheed and Tay address that in a big way. But it'll never happen.
We don't need to get rid of T-mac! We need a 3rd scorer! If we could somehow get Tayshaun Prince for Battier or for any other of our pathetic role players then do it!
I agree that they would help here, even though you give up a big piece in McGrady, I think they could both function in Adelman's offense. As far as if its something they would do, I am thinking it depends on how much Dumars was really throwing everyone to the wolves yesterday. If he really wants a star player and we are the only one willing to deal for one he might go for it. Plus I didn't check their cap situation. I did know that Sheed was an expiring and Tay has like 4 years on his contract yet, but I didn't really take that into account. I don't think it is at all likely to happen either, but it was an intriguing thought.
Absolutely an intriguing thought. I'm not a McGrady "hater" but Wallace usually responds well to being traded. And he's a one year rental that spreads the floor. The Pistons were forced to use Wallace at C and that's not where he is most effective. Rasheed spreading the floor for Yao would be a dream come true and (with Yao on the bench) Wallace wouldn't have to "carry" Scola as much as he did McDyess. Plus, if it's a good mutual situation, re-signing Wallace for MLE-type $ still leaves $10m in cap space for 2009-10. Prince is one of my favorite NBA players. But I think he gets under utilized in Flip Saunders EC-style. Having a player like Yao behind Prince would allow him to gamble more on D. Right now, Prince has no margin for error in the Pistons overall D scheme. Part of the reason he gets tired IMO. Like you said...an intriguing thought. Very intriguing.
Are you kidding me? Of course I would. Hell I'd trade him for Richard Jefferson and a healthy (unlikely) Nenad Krstic
A lineup of Prince + whoever would have been possible had Rudy, Joe Ash & Carroll Dawson not called up the ghosts of Langhi/Collier/Bullard/Turkcan and picked up Nachbar ahead of Prince six years ago.
For Billups and Hamilton - yes For Billiups and Prince - yes For Hamilton and Prince - no For Hamilton and Sheed - no For Billups and Sheed - no For Prince and Sheed - Hell NO
I come out a little different. I'd put the order of what would be best to worst the same as you, but I'd pull the trigger on any trade but the last one
I rather have Prince and Billups, but I'd still do this trade. Prince doesn't have the lateral quickness, strength, or awareness of Battier, but he's nearly as good in all of those, plus he's better offensively and more opportunistic defensively. Sheed is the perfect PF to match up with Yao, and can play the 5 with Scola just as well. All the Rockets would have to do then is pick up a good scoring PG/Combo guard (Ben Gordon?), and they would be incredible on both ends of the floor.
Actually Hamilton and Prince might do, man thats a tough one for all sides involved. Would Detriot like this deal though? BTW, sup wes (from Frostycd1)
My initial reaction was no way, but after reading all the comments, especially about Sheed's expiring contract, I would say yes. We would really be up against it to find an SG that could create his own shot, though. Billips and Prince - No brainer for Rockets. Pistons no way. Billips and Sheed - Yes for Rockets solves PG and Backup C. Creates trade bait with Scola and re-signed Landry. Rip and Sheed - Yes, for Sheed's expiring, but I don't know who would create. Not enough minutes to go around at PF, makes Scola trade bait. Rip and Prince - Yes. Still a problem finding a creator.
'Sheed is on the downside of his career and is apparently losing his marbles. As his skills decrease his outlandish comments increase. Prince is a playoff choker. No deal.
Bleh. I would never equate loss of Prince to loss of a player of Brandon's Roy caliber. We are talking about a franchise type player here. But more importantly, all lost because one guy could not hold his ego in check. I wish I could recall Rudy trying to win a meaningless game for his ego. I do recall him winning two championships though. Sorry, couldn't resist. For all the crappy picks Rudy takes the blame for, and he rightfully should because he was involved heavily in them, I liked his approach of wanting to "look at the bigger picture".
