It's so funny that you say that, because based on past experience, I'd let you down. It's funny because, when I was bartending at this bar, it was in Little Italy, and a lot of the guys who were regulars were your, you know, Howyoudoin? kinda guys...The crowd was mostly gino and ginas, but the regulars were these hard driinking, pool playing bunch of not all that bright but funny kind of guys, and their ringleader was a tall really wide but hilarious guy named Danny. Ok, so I'm getting hit on a lot, and when the girls are rude or stupid about it, I just say not interested. When they're honest and polite about it, I take their number, but don't call them. The guys see this happening all the time, and some times they even ask me to pass the numbers on...I will say this about girls who will ask you out; if they've got the guts to ask you out like that, they are usually at least better than average looking...Ok, so one day I'm serving the regs, and Danny starts to go on about me turning down these girls all the time..and he says, and you've gotta know these are nice guys, but not too educated or eloquent, and he says to me " James, man. You're letting us down, don't you see? We're holding up our end, but you're not holdin up yours!' When I ask what he means, he says to me " You're our Sam Malone...we're trying to live vi-car-ee-ous-lee through you...and we're here...every day, rooting for you...and the women come...but you...you ( and he motions to the latest discrded phone number ).. you're just not holding up your end!" Coming from a guy like that, it was one of the funniest and most touching things I've ever seen...
