IF we have to tank, I say we tank usefully. Let Brooks take whatever shot he wants and let him average 25 points. Advertise him as the next Parker and trade him for a franchise player. Continue to tank, draft another star or two(like a Roy/Aldridge combo).
Ron Artest is declining on the defensive end. Will he still be productive for the next 3-5 years? (or however long his next contract is going to be) Wafer isn't even 25 yet. But if he wants more than 3.5 million a year, I wouldn't sign him.
Purposely tanking for who? Every team that does purposely drop the bucket usually has a player in mind. Who is really out there that is worth losing the home game revenue to try to land? Or the player morale because most of the guys on our squad are competitors and if we purposely force them to lose (because I doubt they will simply lay down and die), these guys will never trust the current coaching staff again for making them look like fools for a season to get some rookie. Not to mention, the way the Lottery works, even if you get the worst record, it is no guarantee that you will get the number 1 pick, which means tanking like Miami did may just land you a 2nd overall pick who is just a bench player early on. Throwing a season can work in other sports but in the NBA its a gamble and does more harm then good.
I wouldn't say they tanked, I'd say their star player got injured thus they sucked. I don't think we will suck without Yao.
Miami heat tank 2 seasons ago and only got the 2nd pick. And they are just so so this season. Sac Kings tanked last season only got 4th pick. Rockets is a team to win many games even without T-mac/Yao. On the other hand, they need to prove that they are such a good team without the superstars, so they can attrack some big name to come to Rockets 2010.
I saw on ESPN that next years draft class is gonna be miles better than this past year. Plus it's revenge of the PF's so A++++
everything is a gamble. #1 pick of all is also a gamble. Bucks and Raptors are lottery teams even though they got their #1 pick. Rockets did not get better after they drafted Yao. Portland did not turn the franchise around after they drafted Oden. but the probability is playing a huge role here. The higher the draft pick is, the higher the possibility you draft a franchise player. We got Morey, who can find us a Brandon Roy, Chris Paul or Deron Williams sooner than we thought.
then we rockets are losers because we sure as hell tanked to get olajuwon and we saw how great that turned out. anyway, i'm always in favor of tanking if a team isn't going anywhere. the objective is to win championships. those of us who were pro tanking in 2006 are still pissed that we don't have brandon roy right now.
Who would you want to tank for? Wall? I rather rox play good, raise the stock of the players, and get it done with the FA.
We're good. Sign a good center, or trade tmac for Bosh. Keep last year's nucleus. Wafer optional. That's it.
I wouldnt say tank but you go with what you have. Let Ron walk and resign Von if the FO wants to or let him walk if they think Taylor and Budinger can step in. Sign a scrub backup C to a one year deal and then basically play it out. You'd be looking at a lineup of: Brooks/Lowry Taylor/Barry/Wafer(if resigned)/White/McGrady(inj) Battier/Budinger Scola/Landry/Hayes/Dorsey/Cook Yao(inj) You would need a C and maybe a SF. Sure that lineup may not get you many wins, but is it worth the risk of resigning Ron for another 3-4 years when Yao isnt getting younger and also no guarentee he stays healthy even if he does come back? The only thing I would do is sign a Gortat or Pachulia who are both fairly young I believe, if you want a good C. I know ZP is young(still 25). And if you recieve any good offers during the season for one of our vets for a young player(25-) who you think will be something, go for it. Otherwise, let McGrady and perhaps Yao expire. Of course then you shoot for the FA class next year but take a risk of getting no one. And finally, you get a presumed lotto pick and pick up a piece to the puzzle. Good thing I'm not GM though.
That was before the lotto made sure the worst team did NOT get the #1 pick. You can't tank and expect the top pick ex.Celtics, Kings, Knicks. Tanking ruins a young team and ruins your chance to land FA's
I love Morey but the man can't turn water into wine nor turn rookies into championship bound all stars. Not to mention, you basically screw your fan base with tanking. There is a reason why the Rockets are one of the more profitable teams in the league today besides being in Houston. Its that we never have given up. Teams all over the league are asking their fans to watch what they do in 2010, like they can all grab Lebron or D-Wade but that sort of mentality is why so many of them have money problems now. They sign big names to bad contracts and regret it later. If we are to have a solid future, we have to build, not risk tearing down the team trying to land an unknown.
Getting the number one pick in the 2010 draft should be priority number one. Yao is finished as a franchise player, T Mac never was a franchise player, and Ron isn't coming back. Sign Gortat. Develop Brooks. Trade Scola for a future pick and cap relief. Hope to get a top five draft pick. Hope to sign Bosh. That's a pretty quick and painless reload and all it takes is one season of ugly ball.
I dont know why are you talking about Rockets like they're blown up just because they lost Yao? I won't talk about TMac because he hasn't played since 08 like he should. This team is hard working, we're actually talking about a team that took LA to seven games! No way Rockets stuff are going to throw away anything just because "Yao's injury is carrer threating". Gimme a break, like there aren't other players on the team.
