    To paraphrase Gunny Sgt. Hartman...

Players retire and get traded. But the Rockets live forever. And that means Rafer lives forever.

Of course you'd give some applause and a thank you for what he did.

He was a good dude while he was here. Nothing but man love for skip. Just didn't produce the returns. It amazes me that we get upset over players leaving who never got us out of the 1st round and shoot 38%.

I can't leave the 38% alone. It is his everday job to practice shooting and develop consistency. Shooting is the one thing you can practice all by yourself everyday of the year and he hasn't improved one ounce. If Rafer was shooting 43% from the field I guarantee you he would be a Rocket today.

His demise (Too many airball 3's (if the floor wasn't there, the ball would have went straight to hell and chunking up those UGLY floaters... use the backboard son, BTW watch my man Lowry do it)

I woudn't boo him either. I don't get the idea that he quit on the team because it doesn't make sense for him to fake an injury. I think his ego is too big to allow himself to play out there as a shadow of what he was which is why he's not playing through the pain. I also think he's made a HUGE mistake in the way he reported his surgery plans and the way he's kind of leaving the organization twisting but I don't think he's quitting.

Yes we haven't gotten out of the first round since he's been here but that's a result of a number of things, some well out of his hands. His performance in the playoffs has been nothing short of fantastic and that's really not up for debate. He's done a great job of holding this team together the last 2 years when Yao went down and helped the team acquire homecourt advantage in a tough western conference. If yao had stayed healthy these last 2 seasons and the team had a chance to peak gonig into the playoffs we'd likely have seen different results. It's easy to look at the surface of Mcgrady's career to say that he's been dissapointing as a winner but it doesn't take much digging to see that it's mostly been a rash of bad luck and circumstances that have hurt his legacy than whether or not he's a great player. because he is. when he was healthy he was every bit an example of an nba superstar, i just don't see it any other way.

that said, I hope he gets his head straight, fixes his knee, and sits out the rest of the season. I'm more interested in seeing what this group can do without him.

Anyone who boos Rafer in pregame announcements is a terrible Rockets fan.

you don't have to cheer for him, but no reason to boo him. he played hard for us, never really did anything against the team, so you don't want him to go off on us, but you don't hope he has a bad game...

Rafer yes, the entire Magic team? Hell no, I hate Magic fans so much. I like Orlando but I just hate their fans on the internet forums of course. ;)

Rafer Alston was a truly under-appreciated player and an underrated player as a Houston Rocket. People underrated what he did to this team and what he brought to this team. I hope Lowry can bring what Rafer brought and add more.

Would never cheer for a player not playing for the rockets. If they are a respected ex rocket, I keep it to myself on the inside.

The rest of the season and the playoffs, I only want him to have one bad game - against us.
