No not at all.. with Bosh: Get ready to party in downtown w/o Bosh: Get ready to be contenders Simple as that. No stress, no seeds, no stems, no sticks!
Flexibility, baby. I'd still like the idea of Big Al for one year at $12MM more than Bosh for 6 years at the max. 6 years is a long time to get injured. Jefferson offers a scoring option down low who can create for himself when Yao is not playing either because of PT restrictions or injury. He's only 25 and can play at the 4 or 5. Then, if Yao is done after this year, we could retain Jefferson and make a move for Carmelo. If Yao shows he can still anchor this team, we can dump Jefferson and make a move for Carmelo (or whomever). Or one of a thousand other options the Rockets would have forfeited if we end up with an injured/washed-up Bosh on our bench at the max. Sorry, I'm a little scarred by being a Rockets fan for the past 6 years.
And then what do we do if Carmelo gets injured after we sign him and he's on the bench and can't play! I think to avoid this we should avoid signing, drafting or trading for any players from now on.
No. I have little expectation that he is coming here and I don't think he is as durable as people think. No more fragile players!
we are not contenders even if Yao is healthy with Bosh we can be in the second round but we still lack defense and a Backup so unless it is Wade or James, Bosh will not lead us to champ i prefer Wade or James with a Camby or Miller
Well, you make a good point. I think that there are a handful of players whom you have to roll the dice on with the way salaries are currently structured. I don't think Bosh deserves that distinction. Not sure that Melo is one of those players either. Regardless, I'd like to see the outcome of the new CBA, which expires after 2010-2011 (if not extended by December of this year) before making any more maximum long-term commitments. Also, it'd be nice to get some idea of what Yao's deal will be and we'll have a better idea after this season. Main thing I'm getting at is: just because this is one of the biggest FA classes ever doesn't mean it is our only opportunity to build a contender for the foreseeable future.
I really haven't expected him to sign here for quite some time so if we fail to acquire him it wouldn't be devasting. I think we are 5-8 seed with Yao but also probably a first rd exit waiting to happen so I do expect something to happen this summer even if it just to setup the trade deadline this upcoming season.
No way!! Let him , Lebron and Wade ride off in the sunset together holding hands. You know those three girls got together over the weekend to talk about men. We don't need those clowns!!
Disappointed, not sad. We are in a better position than teams that just have tons of cap space, beacuse we have tons of assets. Either they will mature into better players and we will get better, or we will be free to continue to dangle them to other teams in the middle of the season. I can definitely see a scenario where we make an inseason trade that puts us over the top, like when we acquired drexler. The only real disappointment would be if we blew too much money on someone marginal because we got jumpy. Please, no Boozer or Gay. Amare scares me, especially since it sounds like we already passed on him once.
Since 2005, A Bosh led Raptor team (Eastern Conference) has had one winning season and has been to the playoffs twice where they lost pretty handily on both occasions. Bosh is a good PF, but I feel that he's a little over-rated. I wouldn't be sad if we failed to acquire him. I would be sad, however, if we gave him a king's ransom and our results mimicked the underachieving Toronto Raptors.
LOL well this is certainly not what I expected. I thought only 5 or so people were like me and thought we don't really need Bosh on the team. Apparently the Bosh supporters are just a very vocal minority...
It's not just Bosh, it's if the Rockets won't get any impact player. I just don't think this current team plus a semi-healthy Yao can put us over the top.
I sort of feel the same way. I really think that all of this Bosh talk by the organization is more PR than practical - an attempt to keep interest in the Rockets high during the off season. I also like how any questions about his durability were quickly swept under the rug around here. At any rate, I keep coming back to the main question as to why Bosh would come to Houston. Despite what Morey, Les and everyone else believe about the Rockets being close to a contending team with Bosh, I just don't see it given the players they'd have to give up in a sign and trade. And despite Feigen and the folks here insisting that the sign and trade route is feasible, I remain skeptical as it strikes me as a whistling past the graveyard type of logic. Also, I have yet to see a good explanation as to why, after spending his time in the NBA Siberia of Toronto, he would pass up the opportunity to (a) play with LeBron in NY or Chi with an excellent chance to win a ring (b) play with D Wade in Miami with another great shot at a ring or (c) play with Kobe in LA with the opportunity to be on a team going for a three-peat. Instead, he would pass all of this up to come to Houston with the attendant uncertainty attached to such a move. I'm not trying to be mean here or overtly cynical just skeptical.
Me too. Soon after morey and the caravan shows up and bosh is on a jet somewhere else like rashard was, he will turn attention to getting someone like jefferson who to me fits better al around anyway. He doesn't cost nearly as much asset wise either.
No. I like our guys, a lot. This is probably the first group of Rockets that I love like family. And as such, I want to give them a chance to see what they can do. I thought we were contenders two years ago and see no reason to think that they can't be with a working Yao. What's adding fuel to my feelings are the hi-end divas who seems to be running this sport. This is the NBA, not the Labron/Bosh/Wade show. When they got together in Miami, it cemented my feelings that a few divas are trying to decide the outcome of next year. That sucks in my book. The inmates are taking over the asylum. And if they get there way, I'm no more afraid of them as would the Piston a couple of years back would be. I say again most adamantly, No!
Well this team adding a semi healthy Yao Ming wouldn't be contenders but a playoff team. With Bosh, this team is still probably a playoff team, not contenders. So overall, Bosh isn't the answer to Houston winning a championship. If they want to be contenders, the Rockets would need more than a Bosh and a healthy Yao Ming. We would need a very good perimeter player that can handle the ball and make big decisions when the game is on the line.
