Whether he's killed his value or not, as long as he has some positive value on the market, he's worth trading, because he has negative value on our team (he's never going to play and his presence is a net-negative, chemistry-wise).

Any time you're a team with contending hopes and your 4th (5th, or whatever) best player (in a vacuum) is refusing to play, you're shooting yourself in the foot by keeping him around. That's a ton of lost value. Anything positive we can get back would be a big help, even if it's not what we were hoping for 6 months ago.

Can you imagine Golden State holding onto Bogut or Barnes if they were refusing to play? Or Portland with Matthews? Indiana with George Hill?

Why does that make it irrelevant? Collecting welfare does not affect the team's wins or losses. Having him play against us and limiting DH's efficiency, collecting all their defensive rebounds, blocking our shots IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO.

I would be disappointed, yes. But that said, I don't want Morey to make a deal that limits future flexibility in order to make a marginal improvement now.

Getting the most for your assets is what keeps you ahead of the pack. Settling for short term help at the expense of long term potential is what eventually leaves you stuck in mediocrity.

Asik is basically dead money for Houston as of right now.

We will be ok without a major trade, SO LONG AS ASIK COMES BACK. If he continues to refuse to play, we are in trouble (at least for the playoffs). I'm gaining confidence that TJones and DMo won't be a complete disaster at PF. We need another wing/guard, which I think we can get on the cheap.

    Bev / Lin
    Harden / Dunleavy
    Parsons / Dunleavy / Casspi
    TJones / Casspi / DMo
    Howard / Asik

That's good enough to go to war with. Probably won't beat OKC, but I think we would have a shot against the Spurs, Clippers, or Portland in the 2nd round.

I dont know of anybody who will dispute that. I got into this conversation on the premise that sometimes NOT trading is better. I agree with the Morey strategy that unless there is a trade that will be beneficial to both parties, no trade is better.

When Asik is healthy and engaged, he is one of the more reliable centers on the league and should have good trade value for a team that requires those skillsets. If we are trading him just for the sake of getting rid of "dead money", we might miss out on better trading partner.

    This.

The Rockets do not want to set up some sort of precedent by which unhappy players appear to dictate whatever they want. They are, after all, employees of an organization. Bad warts need to be rid off before it spreads to healthy portions of a body.

At this point, whatever you can get for him without hurting this team's cap for the near future is a positive.

Agreed. It just depends on what you consider more beneficial: players or cap space.

Based on Morey's history, it depends on the circumstances and what he wants to achieve from the trade.

You are playing with fire if you don't trade Asik and noone will pay 15million for him, seems like Boston still wants Asik, how about Bass and a pick, his contract goes as long as Asik's,he can help us now with his shooting and solid D.

If a trade were going to happen, it would have already happened. For reasons unknown, something is being delayed until the very last minute. I'm not sure if that something involves the real big baby, but I'd be stunned if Morey doesn't make any moves at all.

I don't pretend to know what the "something" is either. But I am sure that how things have played out is what is best for the Rockets from Morey's perception. While this may sound simplistic, looking at what is and what isn't going on are clues.

    Asik is NOT playing.
    Asik has NOT been traded.
Asik is NOT at games (going by what others have said).
Asik has NOT been interviewed or had his comments published in a while.
NOT one person on the Rockets is talking about Asik publicly.

If any of these points WERE in the Rockets interests, they wouldn't be NOTs.

In my mind, this adds up to Asik (presently) not being an asset on or off the court. What he has to say if it was heard isn't anything Morey's wants the world to hear.

Yes. We don't want $8M rotting on the bench. However if Asik decides to suck it up and play then no

hes been saying that since media day before the season started, he also said rockets have the best center in the NBA dwight howard now. He knew about the big event with thousands of fans this summer, dream clyde yao everyone coming down, and he saw the big howard picture in front of the toyota center

he knew where the organzation was going this summer so like a man he asked for a trade to moreys face. Morey didnt trade him so now we have this.
