I'm not sure that there is a trade involving Asik that's worth it for the Rockets. I think there will be a minor trade or 2, but nothing major because Asik has killed his value, he's stuck on the Rockets.

I'm sort of in the only-to-move-Asik camp. Coming from a place of negative leverage, I doubt anything we get back for him at this point that pushes us any closer to contention -- but I don't think we were contending for a championship this year anyway. For that reason, I'd like to see us get a chance to see what we look like with all of our current guys healthy and then make necessary moves in the offseason/next season. Real shame that injuries/Asik's vagina have prevented us from seeing what this current squad truly looks like.

DM has done a terrific job and has my full support, but I will be disappointed if a roster move of some sort isn't made. Big or small. We need something big, but if he's able to add a veteran frontcourt player or another shooter, it's at least something.

[God forbid it, but...] All it takes is a blown out knee to potentially end our championship window. So while I get it: don't go 'all in' if the price isn't right, you kind of have to be willing to take a gamble when you're in our position. If a Rondo type is on the table, do it. Same deal with other players of his caliber.

    Yes, a little bit.

I want Asik gone. I know what's been said about him staying and I know his value isn't very high, but I'd still like to see him shipped out for almost anyone who doesn't ruin potential 2015 plans.

No trade is better than a bad trade

I worry about the collateral damage, i.e. who it might require to be in the package to move Asik. If its Lin, I'm ok with that but I would like to see the Rockets hold onto our young assets especially DMo, Caan, Covington, and of course Jones.

No...there is no rush to make a move, it is important the next move makes us a contender.

Asik has to go. He is pretty much deadweight at the moment.

Even if it is just a first round pick, or two 2nd round picks. Anything of decent to below par value and Asik goes considering his value has plummeted

Asik's value isn't what Morey would like it to be. He would rather keep him but Asik wants out of Houston.
Many fans will be disappointed by what Rockets gets for him.

    Sure, I'll be disappointed.

Obviously I don't know what move would come down the pike. But given Morey's penchant for making trades, whatever it might be, makes me think something has to give with this roster.

McHale is running Harden and Parsons into the ground. Funny thing is, one or another'll be out for a few games, and as soon as he's back, he plays 42 minutes that night.

The bench came up big against Portland. If they can stay consistent, great; but they haven't given much hope so far.

As far as Asik, I think of him as our V-GER (VEE-juhr). Remember that God-awful first Star Trek movie?

An alien force, hidden in a cloud of energy, is moving through space towards Earth. It calls itself V'Ger. At the end of the movie, we find out it's Voyager 6 a 20th-century Earth space probe believed lost. The damaged probe was upgraded by an alien race of living machines and sent back to Earth, and on its journey the probe achieved consciousness by gathering so much info. (With a nod to wikipedia here.)

That's the Asik situation. Asik might have had a "thigh bruise / knee swelling / vaginal discomfort", but the rest of it is just a giant cloud of B.S. around him. And the story has taken on a life of its own.

The team is keeping him out so that he (a) doesn't continue to dog it on the court and REALLY hurt his trade value, (b) infect the team with his grumpy-Gary routine, and (c) not get hurt so we can trade him.

I'm sure you'll see him out there on the floor sometime mid-February. "See? He can play. Well? Do we have a deal?"

If he doesn't get moved at this deadline, then he'll be gone in the summer along with three million bucks (which the Rockets don't have now; thanks, Royce!) and whatever else.

Yes, you cant wait and hope that something falls into your lap like Harden did, our stars are in their prime NOW and god forbid they get injuried like T-mac and Yao and we are stuck in a era like our 08-10 seasons.

Morey clearly has us in a 2-year window of maneuverability. Maybe we trade this year... maybe we trade or sign someone next year... he's not forcing anything. We're still as flexible as ever, the difference is now we're in no rush.

I look at this immediate era of Rockets Basketball as a 164+ game marathon. A prologue to the definitive Harden/Howard era. Last year was Harden's stand-alone feature. Now Howard is on board. We might add some pieces here and there. But we'll get the Avengers franchise sometime in 2015.

Like Morey said, "there's no cavalry coming." - I believe that. For now.

    No.

If Asik comes to terms with Morey not trading him he will play hard. He has to or else he will potentially lose millions on his next contract. His Agent will tell him to play hard for sure.

This team has not been fully healthy since the beginning of he season and I expect big things out of it when they all come back healthy (God Willing) after the All Star break.

Not true. Asik sitting on the bench with a suit on is the worst possible scenario after the trade deadline. There is no reason we should keep Asik

Have you considered the scenario where you have Asik guarding DH?

If the trade deadline goes by without ANY move (which I doubt), I'll have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, the positives are -

-D-Mo, Jones, Canaan, etc. will continue to be groomed and we can see players develop even more.
-The Rockets will keep such a huge asset in having the best backup in the league behind Howard & should be able to rest Howard alot going into the playoffs
-The Rockets might be able to collect a solid veteran off of waivers later on when bad teams start trying to cut vets.
-Keeping pick for 2014 draft which could make the draft this Summer and move leading up to it more interesting.
-Player value of young players should increase in last half of season leading up to Summer.

    The negatives will be-

-No obvious 3rd all-star player yet
-Having to continue to worry about the Asik drama for the foreseeable future.
-Not getting that immediate help needed in areas of improvement needed
-Not having more veteran depth leading up to the playoffs which could hurt this year not being able to make that push.

So you add it up, and really there are actually more positives long term to not making a move (assuming a 3rd all-star is off the table), but I do suspect that Morey will still be very, very active leading up to the deadline if he isn't already. There has yet to be a trade deadline where Morey HASN'T made a move so it would be shocking to not have even a small move made.

Darn. I'll be damned if he does not shore up the bench with good Defensive specialists and scorers.

Get some MVPs from Europe, South America wherever he has his scouts if he can't fix a trade.

This is irrevelant. Him sittin on the bench collecting a paycheck when he CLEARLY doesn't want to be here will be the worst case scenario. Morey needs to make something happen
