Agree. 100% I would like to add. Most Texans fans are so happy with just being Ok / Average. Pat on the shoulder for wining 8 games.
I agree that the defense during Scaub's prime was a wreck. I also think his prime was one or two years. And I don't want a QB who has a two year prime. I want one who lasts, learns, and eventually wins.
Keep in mind, Schaub's crapness (non-clutchness) may've helped lead to his defense's crap-ness. The missed TD to begin the game was a blooper and had to be somewhat demoralizing. The quick outs (one being the famous 3rd-and-5 play) couldn't have helped the defense's mindframe or fatigue.
The problem the defense had was that they were missing Cushing during a time where he was the heart and soul of the defense. They had no answer for Gronk and Aaron Hernandez was absolutely murdering them. It's easy to blame Schaub, but he actually had a pretty good game he just had no help.
If he can give schaub level production I think that's pretty solid... I just hope he can stand in the pocket better than schaub and not be so tentative. Which by all accounts are not problems for him.
Anyway, I don't really want to re-hash the entire Schaub era, I'm just saying that I want a QB that doesn't suck. We haven't had that since Schaub was in his prime and given the weapons the offense SHOULD have and the level of play the defense SHOULD be at, the Texans can be a contender if they have someone who doesn't suck.
Missing Cushing was huge. But the missed TD to begin the game and the 3rd-and-5 are some all-time bullish. I'd reluctantly be "content" with 2.0. Much of that is predicated on the defense.
Schaub's skill/talent or stats? I will be content with his talent and skill level as long as he is able to produce more on the field. The team has given Brock a lot more to work with (at least on paper) than Schaub ever had.
Ah, i was talking about the first possession of the game where the Texans marched down the field with ease and someone dropped an easy TD. I don't remember who it was but I thought it was a TE.
The first possession was Manning's kick-off return where he almost scored a TD. He got ran down... partly reason we went explosive playmaking this draft IMO, Texans have never really had that.. We had the ball redzone (maybe <10 yards) from scrimmage and couldn't TD.
Yeah and the reason we didn't get a TD was that someone, I forget who, dropped a pass in the end zone that hit him in the hands. I'm thinking it was a TE but it's been a while ago.
I think it's pretty sad that fans are hoping Osweiler will be a better qb than schaub, when Texans could've easily drafted Derrick Carr. Carr is looking like a legit pro bowl franchise qb. This is the Texans fault for not drafting him. They put themselves in this position. Now they desperately overpaid a guy who has shown to average at best.
I mean sure, but it's kind of funny that you'd say that given that the board was all over me when I suggested drafting him leading up to that draft.
