Here is post from Jeff - Clutch Crew from 2003: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=1038526&postcount=185

In that post he says: "As for the agreement, yes, the Rockets are locked into a 30-year lease with the Sports Authority. It is a pretty tough one as well. They really took their time with that clause. My guess is that Les won't even own the team 30 years from now. In the last 30, we've been through, what, 3 owners?"

Does anybody know specifically what the Rockets were locked into for 30 years? Was it the entire jersey, the logo, something else?

Edit: After re-reading it, I'm guessing they are talking about the arena?

to killerinstinct, I probably would not be a basketball fan if it had not been for the Rockets back to back rings... I was 5 years old watching it happen, and it inspired me as a fan tremendously

but that's not the point of this thread

it seems that we came to a general consensus that Les changed to the ugly uniforms solely for money...

now... let's see? anyone willing to bet (figure of speech) that Les would have made more money selling classic Francis and Mobley jerseys in the early 2000s than the ugly pajamas?

in other words, had he not changed a thing (except for the inclusion of Clutch the Bear of course, that mascot is the only good thing that happened out of the pajama era), would he have benefited more? I say yes

and if this holds true, not only did Les lose money, but he pissed a lot of us classic fans off

    funny how things turn out

i doubt it would happen, but a redesign back to a style similar to the classic ones would be nice.

Is the new Rockets' slogan "Get Red" really a subversive Communist message hiding out in the open?

this thread has confused the newbs.
cause they zip read everything. people are just assuming the 'ugly' uniforms are the current ones.

that means the newbs actually think our uniforms are UGLY. read carefully.

I don't like the new uniforms. While better than the pajamas, that's not saying much.

Now our guys look like they are cosmonauts or communistanauts. Seriously, what's up with the white trim and cheesy font?

The classic unis were fine. The road ones could have used an improvement but the home uniforms looked good to me. And classic never goes out of style.

It's a shame really. You look at the Lakers and Celtics, still wear the same ole unis. If Les wants to generate jersey sales, fine by me, but it's time to change our unis - I'm tired of them.
