you're on the right path, but your conclusion is wrong. I am as equally convinced that it would be the opposite. Yao, in a Lakers uniform (yellow and purple, not red), would sell like hot cakes.

EXACTLY! Which is exactly why we'd have new uniforms with or without Yao.

that was because we weren't on TV every week like we are now.

Can you remember the Rockets being on national tv twice in one week?

    twice in a month?

You remember NBA on NBC, what games do you think they showed all the time? CHICAGO.

Chicago didn't sell more jerseys because of that stupid marketing analysis of jerseys. those marketing guys didn't even have college degrees.

Chicago sold more jerseys cause of Nike and Mike. PERIOD.

Hakeem deserved all the money he wanted. Seriously was it worth having him go to Toronto so we have $$ to sign Cato and Mo Taylor and Moochie?

the point is the same, regardless.

the point is the same, regardless.

not that I know exactly what the point of this thread is :D , other than it's fun to play the what-if game and argue about it!

I just think all jersey decisions have been motivated by dinero and as such, the Rockets 2008-2009 jersey would definitely not be the PJ's or some alternative of it, regardless of who was/is on the team.

what do you think of that Memphis Tiger home jersey with the two tones for the front and back?...it really looked pretty sweet on a big tv live.

In my short time here I always thought Tinman was a true Rocket fan. But boy was I wrong. Tinman is not a real Rockets fan, he is the fan of the "old" Rockets. i.e. any team but the current, any fans but the new ones. All post Yao/TMac era rocket fans are not true fans in his eyes. Twisted logic? You betcha. Just don't let people like him run a company. Coz only old customers are the real customers for him :)

Anyways, how can someone hate on TMac and Yao with such venom when they are the current Rockets players and faces of our franchise. And brings up Francis as a savior over TMac?! Under Francis we barely made it to the playoffs! Under TMac though we haven't won a playoff series, in every other way we are better than Francis/Mobley era.

College Jerseys are usually nicer looking anyways.

Could you imagine if Les Alexander was the dean of any college?

Hell, if Les was the President, he'd change the flag and remove the eagle as the mascot!

ok let me add, looks like he is more of a Hakeem fan than a Rocket fan. Same way, he is dissing on our current stars, same way he calls Yao/TMac fans as fake rockets fan, Tinman, you are not that real either.

Dumb move and cursed... Nothing wrong whatsoever with the Classic jersey. Rockets did not THreepeat in those ugly-ass pinstripe uniforms.

LESSON: DON"T ***** WITH THE CLASSICS; and DON"T CHANGE WHEN YOU'RE WINNING!!!...

I want to buy Clutch a bottle of bourbon so he can get drunk one day and accidentally delete every rookie off here.

Let me tell you that the Rockets team is not Yao and Tmac, its a whole team.

Another thing, this thread is too complex for you guys, so you should go watch your Soulja Boy videos, cause he's on the same level as you guys

This thread has too many eras, too many uniforms, too many political situation, greed, ownership, different colors

Any thread that's too complicated here is 'hates Yao hates Tmac'

I agree, Rockets is a team not Hakeem. Funny your post came right after you said Hakeem deserves all the money in the world even if he was declining. Too complicated? Maybe for you :)

Can you imagine how many pointless discussions this board would have had Les never changed the uniforms?

you don't even know who Hakeem is. He's just some guy on youtube videos to you.

Yeah, I think bringing respectability, 2 world titles, 3 nba finals, the mvp, the only championship for Houston ( i know none of you rookies know what houston is) is worth the money

hey, the rockets now are paying guys $20million to lose every year in the first round

So wait, is the Rockets about a team or the star individual? I am so confused

Again, don't ever let someone like this guy run a business, look forward dude, stop living in the past. New fans = good thing! Hakeem brought in tons of fans from the African sub continent and even from the middle east back then, its good thing. Got it? Same way Yao is bringing in asian fans.

    tinny,

fwiw, my post was tongue-in-cheek. I'm sure u know that though...

as far as the unis, of course we'd have new ones. les is motivated by $ and trying to stay "fresh" (not the old school movie, btw).

instead of preserving tradition and tweaking our foundational colors, he changes them.

tmac changes in the scheme? yea, probably would be thin striped, streamlined...sleek. maybe even keeping the blue. while that may sound appealing to some, I'm glad for the return to "reddish".

what's funny/scary is after this yao era, we'll change again. probably another drastic change that will further distance the franchise from any semblance of tradition/history.

I'd love too see us go back 2 the old unis with a more modern font and good length. that won't happen though, unless dream has a son I don't know about, and we end up drafting him...

Live in your bubble, Hakeem is well known globally in those areas. If you didn't know that you are the clueless one. His Ramadan game is a stuff of legend among the muslim community who followed or started following Hakeem.

Again, lets repeat, NEW FANS ARE GOOD FOR THE ROCKETS. How can a "true" Rocket fan even argue against that? or hate on new fans? sigh.

Can I have a number 2 with a side of number 3? Scratch that, one number 4.

It wasn't a shot at your thread. A lot of people complain the uniforms need to be changed now....black and red. If Les never changed the pinstripes, could you imagine how often people would talk uniforms and not basketball?

and anyone who doesn't think "yao" is the prime motivator behind the current unis is flat out blind. we don't hire an asian designer with instructions to have a more eastern flare without the "yao effect".

I wish we weren't so prone to blowing with the wind and would establish the rockets brand and not try to be in the new "in crowd" all the time.

$$ wise, if you have a classic, clean, design and a successful team, your jerseys will sell. spurs, lakers, celtics have all tweaked their jerseys but remained true to their history.
