For fans who think Yao didn't play enough to get jersey retired:

Yao's place in Rockets history(on court production only):

#10 in games played.(Big surprise huh?)
    # 5 in win share.
    # 6 in total point.
    #6 in total rebounds.
    #2 in total blocks.
    #4 in FG%.
    #8 in FT%.
    #2 in all-star selection.
    #2 in all-nba team selection.

How is that not jersey retirement worthy?

Throw in off court impact and his relationship with owner, management, coaches and teammates, is there any doubt his jersey will be retired?

The amount of attention he brought alogn with him from China alone should be enough to have his jersey in the rrafters. He was Les' cash cow ;)

We do not have that many retired jerseys for a 2 time championship team.

As a comparison, the only other team with two championships are the Knicks. They have nine retired jerseys.

There is no doubt in my minda Yao should have his Jersey retired. It should not even be a debate. But I think this comparison is a good argument.

you HAVE to be kidding! NO WAY does he deserve his jersey or number to be retired. I cant believe the amount of "for a man that carried himself in such a way and was so nice and so respectable, he surely deserves " crap because being a "nice dude" in NO WAY shape or form deserves an accolade like that. He may have been nice but had absolutely no dominance, he bobbled the ball around and let point guards strip him. A guy his size, he should have been unstoppable. He played like 3 minutes in the last 5 years. The best he ever did for us is we got to the SECOND ROUND of the playoffs before he had yet another injury (which proved to be the final one). He was not a true leader and nowhere near a legendary player. Retiring his number/jersey because asian people liked him is ridiculous.

Yes retire his jersey, but replace his number with a $ sign.

It wasnt just Asian people buddy, the entire Houston community embraced him for his hard work, dedication, and love for the game. The guy gapped the bridge for some international basketball. He was the face of the franchise for 10 years, was the best center in the league for 5 of those years, he was our go to guy in a time where centers are hard to come by. You say he should be unstoppable for his size.. yet how many 7'6 players have you seen play 10 year careers and put up near 20 and 10 numbers like he did. Its not that easy playing with a body like that and dominating like he did. The best he did was take us to the second round yes, but thats when he finally had a supporting cast around him, had he not gotten injured, i believe we would have bested the eventual champions in that best of seven series. The guy is a consummate professional and will be one of the greatest Rockets in the history of the franchise on and off the court

All the stuff you posted is the "nice guy we like him blah blah" he was railing against. The other poster who brought up the Yao Ming team records makes a much better argument, but again my largest complaint with Yao was he was always injured in the playoffs. Being an all Nba teamer or going to multiple all star appearances or even averaging 20-10 a season loses a lot of its value if the guy can't play at all in the playoffs.

If they retire Yao's jersey for what he did for the Rox as an Asian icon, then fine. But if you're talking about purely bball accomplishments I think Tmac deserves to have his jersey retire more than Yao, and I don't even think Tmac deserves to have his jersey retired.

    Really?
No second round apperance, quit on the rockets, yet Tmac deserves more than Yao does?

You can do better than this roslolian
