Would we have won last night if Omer Asik was still a rocket?

Ah - you beat me to it!

Asik is the only player I wish we hadn't lost, while at the same time being a fairly useless piece for this team. We simply don't have space for a starting C to be playing 10 minutes per game as a backup.
Very happy with the haul we got for him, and hopeful that we will find a passable backup C somewhere along the way this season.

Well that's not true. The whole reason he got the players he did is because they are cheap and won't hurt the cap in free agency this summer. Papanikolaou and Terry are useful contracts for salary-matching.

Let's just say asik was on the team despite having ariza and terry.

Would he help our outside shooters get better looks? Teams have to double down on Dwight, asik you might not have to.

Asik was such a luxury to have off the bench. (when he actually DID want to play)

Pretty much that is your opinion versus my opinion. The Rockets train is roaring smoothly down the tracks, and if it continues that way I expect only minor adjustments. So I am not going to tell you that what you said is untrue. And you should do likewise with me. IMHO Papa was brought in because Morey thinks highly of him as a prospect. Terry was brought in to provide veteran leadership for the second unit. We can agree to disagree.

No, we still try to get them to come here - see Carmelo, Bosh.

The guys who actually want to come here, like Lowry, we say wait until Lebron makes up his mind - then we may be interested.

Lowry would be expensive and the position is more than adequately covered by Bev, Canaan and Terry. For about half of Lowry's money.

Morey has said himself that the whole idea of creating "flexibility" was to make a trade during the season or sign a free agent over the summer.

This is not the team he's rolling with for the next several years. He has said this team isn't good enough to win a title.

People tend to forget we held them to under 100 points. Our problem wasn't on the defensive end, (Yes I know we could have rebounded a 'bit better with Asik, but our offense would have taken more of a hit with D-Mo having a solid game.)

Our problem was no inside out game. Asik wouldn't have demanded a double team, nor would we run plays for him. Just have to accept the fact that when you're missing three key starters one being a star, you're just not going to win tough games against tough healthy opponents.

They would have had a much better chance, but that doesn't matter since there was no way he was ever going to stay with the Rockets. He's a starting center on about 20 other teams why the hell would he want to stay on one of the very few teams where he would come off of the bench?

Yes because he was so amazing versus the Blazers......

Getting rid of him was a great move. The guy was a malcontent and we got a huge haul moving his ass. It was an amazing trade.

Yeah the whole third superstar and keeping flexibility talk was just Morey trolling everybody. His plan all along was to trade for picks, trade exceptions, and not use cap space so that he could keep a similar roster

Asik does not like being a backup. He left Chicago because of that. My feeling is Morey did him a solid by trading him to NOLA

Besides, two other starters were out too

We would've won if we had shot better. If any of our 3 missing starters had played significant minutes. But hey, GS is one hell of a team with probably the best PG in the league right now.

The point the OP is making is we have nothing behind Dwight to anchor our defense down when Dwight is out. Yeah we missed a ton of 3's. Does anybody know why? Look, one thing affects another in a game. We got beat on the glass, and in the paint also.

We need another primary rim and paint defender that can set picks and screens and clean up the garbage down low. Asik is the player we ate going to miss most from last season until we get a replacement for him that is viable.

This is ridiculous. It's not like we wanted to trade Asik.

Asik was clearly frustrated on our team, and he's allowed to be. He's a competitor. This is his career, his legacy. He wants to start, and he's earned the right to essentially demand it.

We obviously didn't HAVE to trade him, but it was the right thing to do. I understand not wanting to risk dis-interested play, which could have clearly happened had we not moved Asik.

We did get good value for him. Take the potential lottery pick and move on. Some players, out of human nature, want their own scene. Not everyone is willing to be a spare part. Again, there was a clear risk in keeping him as a backup this year. Who knows if he would've really tried/ cared, or if he would be going through the motions akin to Andre Johnson right now

That's most of the NBA. most of the NBA don't have two starting centers on their team.
