Colt will go late 1st or 2nd round...way too early for the Texans to spend that kind of a pick on a QB. We have much bigger needs.
The UT fanbase. I want a GOOOOD DE to help put pressure on the QB. It helps the DBs because it hurries the QB to make a quick (bad) decision.
He doesn't seem like he has a great arm, but neither did Brady. He gets rid of the ball pretty quick. I would be surprised if he went in the 1st round.
Who, in particular? The OP asked if we would draft him. Nobody has come in and said that we should draft him. Ignoring talented options from a school is as dumb as only focusing on talent from that school.
Donnymost: The UT Fan Base Halfbreed: Who? Kam: You asked who, andi just repeated what DonnyMost said. I thought it was funny.
I don't think the Texans should draft a QB for a LONG time. Not a good track record in that area. We need to draft all defense next year. A DE to replace that worthless Weaver. Another CB to add depth, and a Safety to add depth. Maybe another O lineman, but certainly not a QB....
Special Teams, for the most part. Another reason I'm not a fan of Richard Smith. I'd like to see what this kid can do. But then again, we're not a practice every week so we really don't know what kind of work ethic he has etc. But I sure would like to see what he can do. He's taller and stronger than Reeves and Faggins and certainly has more upside.
Holy crap; I remember a similar thread to this in 2005. Man, I don't know if I can stomach 3 more years of Internet and air wave warfare over a decorated burnt orange qb.
you know it hilarious that the same guys who keep posting about the past are the same ones claiming others have a problem of letting it go. and as far as the ut fan base is concerned, yeah its pretty silly to want members of your favorite college team on your pro team for the sake of it, but until this team starts winning on a consistent basis, fans can complain about anything the want.
Colt is not going pro, and that came straight from the horse's mouth. My little brother is a senior for the Horns, and we had to meet with Gil Brandt (former Cowboys GM and current league liason) before the Mizzou game on saturday. The 'Horns bring him in every year to talk to the seniors and the top underclassmen about the dangers of agents/runners and your amateur status. Brandt is in charge of providing players with the league's opinion of their draft status as in what round they are likely to be drafted. He told Colt and his dad that he should stay in school and his dad, said, you don't have to worry about that, because he's not going anywhere. Colt is a great college QB who will likely win the Heisman this year, but he's much closer to Major Applewhite (pre-knee injury) than Drew Brees. Arm strength at the NFL level would be a huge question mark.
I think he stays. Plus, it will allow them to redshirt Gilbert for one year. With the team that should be coming back, you're probably already looking at the preseason #1 for 2009.
I'm not sure Colt is a pro football QB. I am sure is a fantastic college QB, though. I'd actually be surprised if he came out early.
1) McCoy would be stupid to not return for his senior year at UT. This could end up being back to back national championships for UT if things go right. He could become an all-time legend in Texas athletics. 2) Is something wrong with Schaub/Sage? 3) Draft for defense. Bigger need than 3rd string QB.
he reminds me alot of jeff garcia, very accurate, not a strong arm, short and somewhat mobile and can really throw on the run. watching jeff garcia last night, you tend to forget that he had some garcia had some probowl type seasons 00 and 01. i am starting to think arm strength maybe overrated in terms of valuing a quarterback. sure it can separate guys like phillip rivers, jay cutler, from the pack, but you see guy like drew brees and others not only be adequate but have mvp type years who really lack it.
