Actually I think we would've lost in the first round since Roy would've ruined us.

Have u ever thought that maybe if we had rudy, we would have won more games in the regular season? How many games rudy missed this yr vs shane, ron,or tracy? So the question is not logical to begin with. Once more, what is kobe's fg% in this series and how many pts is he scoring?

So shane is shutting kobe down by basically allowing him to get identical numbers he had in the regular season? Same pts,fg%,ft%, everything.

Are you implying that Battier's defense on Kobe has no effect on our ability to hang with the Lakers so far? Are you trying to say that Kobe would have been shooting at the same rate if Gay was guarding him?

Rud Gay missed 3 games. The Grizzlies won 2 of them (New Orleans, Toronto) and lost the other one by 4 points (Philly).

In the 79 games Rudy Gay did play, the Grizzlies were 22-57.

While Rudy Gay was on the court, the Grizzlies were 6.9 points per 100 possession WORSE than than they were with him off the court.

On the other hand, Battier missed 22 games. The Rockets were 5.2 points per 100 possession BETTER with Battier on than when he was off.

How exactly does Rudy Gay playing translate to more wins by the Rockets? There isn't even evidence he was helping the GRIZZLIES win more games than they would otherwise.

Maybe we should have traded Tracy Mcgrady for Rudy Gay.....

What I'm saying is Kobe's numbers are exactly the same as the regular season. If you dont belive me, go look it up.

what's so wrong with this thread?

Quite obviously the rocket's would be an inferior team with rudy gay instead of shane battier. we didn't get enough for the pick? we got the more valuable player and the end result a better team. we did fine. Gay is unbelievably overrated on this board and it boggles the mind as to why. Would I trade Battier for OJ Mayo? absolutely. Gay filling the lanes is a fantastic idea but so once was Lamar Odom running the break with Cat and Steve filling the lanes. Too bad we didn't do that trade, eh?

The rockets were 10-5 without shane to begin the season and gave up less pts, what does that tell you?

you're far more intelligent than to solely look at these numbers and pretend like that tells the whole story of this series. You can try and fool yourself all you want, but Shane chasing Kobe around no matter what he's scoring is a significant reason we're in a game 7.

Can you tell me why Kobe has done better against the Rockets after Shane arrived here than he did before the Battier era began?

No, you are implying something. I am calling you out to say it out straight. Come on, be man. Just say it out loud, "Shane Battier is just an average defender. His game has no effect whatsoever on Kobe. We going this far has nothing to do with Battier."

    Say it. leeb.

Why are so many people "forcing it" when trying to be funny these days? And, more alarmingly, why are there always so many people who don't even realize it.

The point that you guys always overlook is that the Grizzlies wanted Gay really badly,CD could and should have gotten more out of the 8th pick.Even Les said that.
Don't forget Battier couldn't do much at all apart from defending when we didn't have the depth we have now apart from the odd good game on the offensive end.
JVG liked Shane but he called him out on more than one occasion for being reluctant to take open shots. He wasn't injured for part of the season at that time either.

I've never said shane was a avg defender. I've said he was a very good defender, but all this shut kobe down stuff is crazy. If i told you kobe would avg 29ppg on 46%, would you say shane is shutting him down or keeping him in control? If kobe was sitting at 20ppg and 39%, then ok, but c'mon.

You know who focused on stats guys and scorers at the expense of defense and intangibles? Isiah Thomas. The same fools that pine for Tim Thomas, Ricky Davis and Travis Outlaw don't understand that you don't just find guys who play the best help defense in the league year in, year out. You don't just make a deal for nothing to get people who will guard the other team's best player without complaint. If this year's playoffs hasn't convinced you that defense, hustle, leadership and intelligence have huge value in the NBA then I don't know what to tell you. Shane Battier is a winner and always has been.

I've said many times, it wasnt about shane vs rudy. To me it was the possibilities of what we could get either by drafting rudy and trading him like we did Greene, offering the 8th pick for a young vet like josh childress or someone like that, or just drafting a guy like ronnie brewer whom i wanted anyway.
