Four yards per carry, 263 total yards - the majority of which came in a 15-minute stretch where the Texas defense couldn't get off the field. Gash is quite an overstatement.
The thing is... Texas' main problem was on the offensive end... they didn't get going until late in the 3rd and then in the 4th... IIRC.. the way Gilbert was playing... at first.. when he came in during the 1st and 2nd quarter... he finished the half with -4 yds... -4... I mean, someone like Colt who is the LEADER of the offense wouldn't have -4 yds.. and you can't say it was because of the Bama's defense... It's easier to defend a freshman QB than someone like McCoy. I'm not saying Texas would have won, just saying that the offense would have been better... and I don't know who called you a hater, but I don't think you're hating.
Couldn't get off the field is a pathetic excuse. I'll take the team who can run the ball every time over the flashy spread offense. It really sucks that McCoy didn't get to play, would have been hilarious to see him come up short of a title.
Just like he came up short of a Big 12 title, Fiesta Bowl title and becoming the winningest quarterback in college football history...
I agree that the game would have been different. I mean obviously it would not have been the same type of game if McCoy didn't get hurt. I just don't think you can answer Would Texas have won if Colt played. Texas offense would have been different but I think Bama's defensive would have been different also.
Fair enough, I'm not saying Texas would have won, I'm just saying it'd been more of a positive for Texas than and more of a negative for Bama had McCoy played.
Well it sucks that McCoy didn't get to play, I would have really liked to see his jock-riders silenced after the SEC once again proved every other conference is inferior.
To the extent that your argument consists of apple = orange then you should probably sit it out. I don't understand why some people tend to get really offended when others discuss a hypothetical situation, start huffing and puffing like crazy about how it's unpossible. Of course it's not possible - time travel doesn't exist, just let people have fun and discuss it. If they want to discuss other hypothetical situations that's fine too.
You're right, I forgot they won the meaningless Tortilla Chip Bowl against a freshman Terrelle Pryor. Vindicated!
If you consider the Fiesta Bowl meaningless, you've pretty much discredited any college football opinion you have, so congratulations. PS: I love how you make the "freshman" excuse when it's against UT, but you curiously never mention the age/experience of Garrett Gilbert when jocking Alabama. Hmmmm...
Pryor isn't even that good to begin with. I think the Bowl Championship System is stupid, which is why College Football is stupid in general. YAY WE WON THE TIJUANA BIMBO BREAD BOWL WOOO HOOOOOO WORLD CHAMPS! So dumb. Playoffs please.
I'm not offended, apparently you are though since you consider me a Horns hater based off what I said in this thread. Nope I'm not huffing and puffing like crazy. I did not say it was impossible for Texas to win with McCoy. I just said you can't prove they would have won with him in just like you can't prove they would have lost with him in. Pretty simple to me. All I did was add another pointless unproven what if question to the thread just like others jokingly did on the 1st page.
I agree with that. I mean if someone asked me before the game would Texas have a better choice of winning with McCoy or Gilbert I would definitely say McCoy.
I'm not referring to you specifically i'm just talking about past experiences - hypotheticals are all meaningless and speculative by definition, we all know that by now.
As someone who was at the game and had the opportunity to look downfield on the few passing plays Bama actually won, I can assure you the last part of your post does not apply. That was the most dominating pass defense I have ever seen (the one they did throw had two Texas defenders closer to the ball than the Bama receiver). Most of Texas's sacks (five sacks vs six completions) were because of coverage, not immediate pressure (although one or two were). Bama had to live and die with Ingram and Richardson, but they didn't realize that until their third possession, they came out passing. If McCoy was out there, they would have been down 10 or 14 nothing and probably had to abandon their run 1st, 2nd and 3rd mentality. It would have been a blow out. As Colt said, "we were getting ready to dominate." As a Texas student, I can only say too bad.
Except that Bradford was hurt going into the game and hadn't played since his injury in week 1. This isn't anywhere the same comparison, since Colt was healthy and him playing was obvious. OU played all season with Jones, Gilbert had 26 pass attempts in garbage time.
