God, grant UT fans the serenity To accept the things they cannot change; The courage to stop whining like little b****es; And the wisdom to know that Alabama will always be the National Champion this year and that no one will care nor remember that Colt McCoy (who?) was hurt in the first quarter.
Before the game, I predicted Bama. After the game, I believe if Colt was healthy, Texas would have won. Why? Look at McElroy's stat line. If Colt was healthy, Bama would have to rely on McElroy more. The Texas defense owned McElroy. Texas had 5 sacks...it would have been more if Bama did not play conservative. Also, the costly turnovers would not have occured had Colt been healthy. The Texas defense single handedly kept UT in the game until the offense started clicking.
As I've said before, if you're in the "if McCoy plays we win" camp, then you pretty much open the door for "if Bradford plays we lose" vs. OU... Ifs, buts, candy, nuts, and so on. Let it be.
I sort of agree with this. Moes is either joking or crazy to say Colt never had a big win (especially since he out dueled last year's Heisman winner in their head to head matchup). Colt would have dominated 'Bama this game, IMO. But if Bradford doesn't get hurt against BYU (and UT) then we don't know how that game turns out. Colt was pretty shaky at the beginning of this year (compared to his previous performances).
texas beat a healthy ou with bradford last year, no reason to think they wouldn't have done it again this year. the title game sucks so bad b/c Texas came out with so much momentum... colt stays in and your looking at Texas taking a 10-0 or maybe even 14-0 lead within mins of kickoff. on top of that, their defense came out and SMOKED bama on their very first drive. losing colt that early changed the entire complexion of that game in every possible way... offensively, defensively, emotionally, on top of zapping all that early momentum. ****ty way to lose but nothing you can do about it now.
It infuriates me how people say that texas wouldve lost anyway because of the Alabama defense and their running games. Texas had them shut down in the first two possesions with no sign of giving in. If they wouldve kept colt it would've been a 14-0 lead. People underestimate how important losing a leader is. Its monumental. After he left the team just didnt know how to adjust to the confusion. And yes colt being out DID AFFECT THE DEFENSE.
Oh, I was thinking he would finally have a team to contend with! I was thinking this is where he performs the best! I was thinking this was a healthy Tmac!
So you're not sure if Colt would've been able to change the outcome of a 16 point game, but you are sure that Sam Bradford would've had no effect in the outcome of a 3 point game? Yeah, ok...
That 2008 OU team (#1 team in the nation and national runner-up), which McCoy ripped to shreds, really sucked huh? That OU team would beat this year's Alabama team by 20 points.
The real question is how bad would Bama had won if McElroy didn't have cracked ribs and Ingram didn't sit out much of the 2nd half with injuries. Just like with Bradford early in the season and Tebow earlier this season, injuries happen. Maybe Mack should have played his back up more in some of the early season blow outs to give him more experience.
We'll just never know. Would the Rockets have defeated the Celtics in '86 if they had had Lucas? I might say yes, but to what end?
Yes, I'm sure if Texas had come out throwing with Gilbert in the second half of 40-point blowouts you would have had zero complaints.
