If Manute Bol can do it...so can Yao.

if Yao develops that mid range like Yi has, he will be so much better. for one thing, he doesn't have to always stay in the post. oh well, his jump shot isn't very good looking. his post moves are very good though. so stick with what you can do. later in his career, it may help him if he develops a better mid range jump shot.

if yao did develop a mid-range game, this offense would have zero problems b/c adelman wouldn't have to tinker so much.

yao would then be able to play the high post, opening up the lanes for the guards, and teams would not even think twice about fronting yao or doubling yao b/c we have an answer to that.

unfortunately, his mid-range game is awful. and it's too late to develop it.

instead, he needs to get better post position and kill the opposition. he's been seeing only sporadic double teams this year so i want him to start dominating.

#1 reason to not allow Yao to shoot a 3 pter-
Even if he shot a respectiable 34%, that's a 66% chance of an offensive rebound being available.

There is a good chance of the rebound leading to a fast break.

Even if Yao passes the ball to somebody in the lane, he will be too far away to rebound the ball or to tip it in.

No way, first of all Yao would be a poor shooter from the arc and obviously we would have no rebounders near the rim.

He needs to be parked on the low block. I hate seeing him on the high post.

+ the foul and makes the FT.

Anyway, I remember when we hired Adelman, we made a thread about Yao probably attempting more threes. Everyone seemed to agree. It might come, it might not. It would be a GREAT addition to his repertoire. And to those saying his mid range game isn't consistent... what the hell are you guys watching?

I'd rather see Rafer Alston develop a 3pt shot. ;)

Seriously, I wouldn't mind seeing Yao shoot 3s IF he was more mobile. Then he would be able to fake the shot and drive in, like Nowitzki does.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would agree that Yao should launch 3 pointers.

It would be such a colossal waste of his talent and height. Let guys like Novak and other scrubs/specialists shoot the 3's.

Yao needs a mid range game first. He can not even hit 15 footers over 40%.

The mid range game was all he had his rookie year. JVG took it away, for the better of course. Who in the world would do the rebounding? The midget PFs?

if amare can develop a pretty good mid-range j, yao can certainly get it back.

all of our 4's are decent rebounders. it just gets tougher when you play teams with an all-star caliber pf, most of which are in the west.

    "Throw it down, big man!"

That's all Yao has to learn to do. I swear it takes half the season for him to "un-learn" the soft style of play he reverts to every summer after spending time with the Chinese team. I'm not bashing just stating my opinion. He seems to slowly reach a point where he is close to reaching his potential and then he gets hurt, has surgery, plays for China and comes back playing the way he did as a rookie.

Because why would you want Yao to LEARN how to shoot 3's when you already have a guy like Barry who is an EXPERT at shooting 3's.

It's just a bad idea and a waste of Yao's height on the court.

The bizarre thing is that Yao is a fantastic FT shooter, but a very mediocre mid range shooter. I would not expect him to ever be a decent three point shooter.

    Next.

I just looked it up because i remembered Yao hitting one over team USA....Yao was 2-6 on 3s at the olympics, which is not terrible.

That being said, except for very rare occasions trailing the fast break, i see no reason why yao should not park his ass 12 feet from the basket.

Sam Perkins could hit the three, and he always gave us fits.

Granted, he's nothing like Yao Ming, but it's not always a terrible situation.
