Where else did either of them campaign big-time for the black vote other than South Carolina?

I like the notion that because I'm "latino/hispanic/etc" I'm supposed to vote Democrat.

It was sort of implicit in the post stating that all they have to do is get out the Latino vote and the Republicans are in trouble, implying that Latinos should vote for Democrats if they vote their own interests. Unless I was reading his post wrong, that is (always possible).

You're not supposed to, but the group overwhelmingly does. Just as men vote Republican, African Americans vote Democrat, young people vote Dem, married people vote GOP, etc. If you increase the # of people voting for any of these groups, you likely increase the vote for that party. If any of these groups vote in really low numbers, then there's a huge opportunity there.

Well the way TJ put it was insulting, I agree. And you are right - but I'm saying that being a woman, or being black, or being Jewish, or a god-fearing bible-beating WASP - it's going to help you get SOME votes from people who are similar to you.

Oh people will say it's for x issue or whatever, but you can't say that it's not an influencing factor. I mean, there's a lot of studies and things based on this. Comfortability and likability are big things you have to acheive, and people are more comfortable and tend to like those who are most similar to themselves. There's not rule, but I am just saying it's an influencing factor.

We all know that black men were given the right to vote before women...... once again, this seems to be the case.

As for black voters siding with Obama isn't it just like gun owners siding with McCain? People vote for those they have something in common with. Had Obama not ran I feel confident that Hillary would have received the black votes because she represents something outside of the box that has held many down for a long time in America.

BACK to my question: If religious people can appeal on "Morality" and incorporate their beliefs against a candidate and party(abortion for example)...... Why would it be wrong for the Democrats to exploit intolerant factions as the Republican party?

The KKK after all has so called Christian beliefs and they hate on Jews and every other religion, so why is it fair when the religious right represents Christians and uses its influence, however it is not fair for the Democrats to use evil christian groups such as the KKK to use as a symbol for the intolerance of the Republican party?

ALL Democrats are painted as Pro Choice infidels, so why not portray the Republicans as HateMongers in bed with the worst possible people our country has to offer?

I say they are fair game as long as they want to play the religious card.

IMO it doesn't matter if you are Republican or Democrat, rich people work for rich people.

However I say this to you: If you are unhappy with the country we have right now and your life........they can talk about experience all they want but the fact is mccain has been there for 26 years and look how screwed up it is. Obama is just getting started, you can't blame him as much as you can McCain. I liked McCain when he was a maverick but he went along with GW waaaayyyy too much.....he must pay the price.

    NUMBER ONE ISSUE FOR ME?
    THE PORTS

Terrorists are smart and if we want to allow Capitalism to get us killed they will surely help. I don't care how much money companies lose, these bastards are playing with our safety. These things should be treated like nuclear plants, highly guarded and secured. If businesses want to get rich they need to play by the same rules as the airports, spend to prevent catastrophes.

Once again you notice how I said that the Republicans and Democrats are the same? Watch how much they talk about the ports in the debates. ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY. The war on terrorism is one of the biggest jokes in our lifetime as long as they don't secure the places that the most outside goods come from. The number 1 lobbyist against checking all shipping containers? WALMART.

No matter what happens in this election, it can't be any worse than the last 4 years.

Black men weren't given the right to vote before women in any practical sense of the word.

They weren't really given the right to vote until just over 40 years ago. that's it. They haven't been voting that long at all.

That wasn't necessarily the case in much of the country. Also during the Reconstruction Jim Crow laws hadn't come into effect and Black men were able to vote and even win office in the South during that time.

Correct, I understand that and agree with you. That is why I said practically in my original post. There was a tiny period where they could vote and win office during reconstruction.

As for the rest of the country they only had a small percentage of African Americans. A few places had larger pockets. But on the whole and except for those few cases Black men couldn't vote until after the civil rights bill of 1964.
