I say pair Karl up with Donnie Nelson. They could be the defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator, respectively.

I'm sure if Houston offered Donnie Nelson the job, he would take it. He seems like he would be a great coach for any team.

    A few candidates :

    Phil Jackson
    Donnie Nelson
    Del Harris
    Nate Mc Millan

We need a team of coaches - not 1 dictator and flunkie underlings. We need some really good assistants for player development and scouting, and some x/o helpers. The head coach should be a good manager of his team, adept with player egos, and able to process all the information and lead in a clearly profitable direction.

I'm not saying it will or won't, but I would not put any money on JVG seeing springtime in H-Town.

Supposedly he is happy happy happy in Cube's front office. But, he (or Yao's Del) would be my premier choice.

Calvin Murphy would be a great head coach. I hope the Rockets realize this before some other team out there does.

Also, what about Paul Westphal, the old coach of the Phoenix Suns. We definitely need a new offensive game plan and his teams were great scorers, and exciting to watch.

I agree. Think about football...everyone listens to the head coach, and he makes the decisions, but the various offensive and defensive coaches do all the teaching.

I will be a happy fan the day Van Gundy is gone, no matter who replaces him. I wouldn't mind Del Harris. I certainly hope its not George Karl though...that guy has never impressed me. And for some reason I would not be surprised to hear Calvin Murphy come up as a legitimate candidate.

Ain't no way Calvin even gets a sniff at coaching the Rockets, ever. But I'd like to see it. The black Cotton Fitzsimmons he would be, running and gunning up and down the floor with all those crazy suits and driving the refs crazy. The Rox would sell out every night just on pure entertainment value. And I think the guy could actually get a lot out of a team. Don't know if he has the ability to run the defenses necessary to bring a championship to town. But I'd sure go see him. You gotta love Calvin.

If Yao pulled the power play, which I don't think he would ever do, then the logical choice to coach this team would be Del Harris. He would probably be Yao's choice since Del helped the CNT so much. That's the kinda guy Yao is, loyal. That's why he won't pull the power play on Van Gundy. Because Yao knows what loyalty is. Van Gundy could learn about loyalty from Yao.

Riley didn't destroy the Heat. Alonzo's kidney destroyed the Heat.

eric musselman - young fiery coach. he will encourage tmac to penetrate more. why tmac is shooting 41% like AI, who's 6'1"? he'll push yao to be tougher and grab more rebounds.
