my freshman year of high school, that song came on at a dance and some girl just started crying uncontrollably out of nowhere...it was the strangest, most pathetic thing I have ever seen in my life...I couldn't help but laugh

Lucas with the Lid Off, passable song. But my criteria was, try to actually sing it....there's no way of singing it without looking like or sounding like a goober So its more a bad "sing-out-loud" song. Think of Bosstone's Impression That I Get. Now think of anything by SUGAR RAY in comparison. Lordy...
Wikipedia for the win: Diane Warren's page is here. And yes - I would have to say that in terms of musical nausea, last-gasp-pathetic displays of sellout-ness, and just plain lyrical uselessness - "I don't want to miss a thing" is quite possibly the apex of grotesque piles of filth in musical form. And that movie was freekin' lame too.
I'm not going to add anything new other than saying that the song by the 4 Non Blondes is actually called "What's Up" despite it saying over and over "what's going on?" I know, I know, it is pretty sad that I actually know that. But chalk it up to a memory that knows too many obscure stuff plus reading COUNTLESS articles that mentions that song as one of the worst. I just want to add also that the Macarena and the 4 Non Blondes song are so awful that I can't pick which one is the worst. They both tie for absolute crap.

Faith No More.......the worst song ever! I'd rather listen to the Macarena for a month straight than to listen to this craptastic song even once! <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nsETamxkT9E&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nsETamxkT9E&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
