Apparently they got some attention a while back, and have since removed all references to the mascot from their site...but here he is in all his glory...
Tortillas...lots of tortillas. If you got that joke, then you were an SWC/Big XII fan in the late 1990s.
I've gotta say that, as a Tech Alum, I've never heard that. Although I did find it funny when the native Americans said we were one of the worst mascot names. Of course, they didn't even bother to find out why we were called the "Red Raiders." Hint: It has nothing to do with native americans.
In the mid to late 1990s, at every Tech home game, for some reason I can't figure out, the Tech students would all throw tortillas onto the field. It was insane.
I'm fully aware of that. Just not the joke or the punchline. BTW, we still throw tortillas. I still think one of my funniest college memories was going to the Cotton Bowl in 1994, I think. We had our tortillas ready and walked into the gate at kickoff. Kid you not, by the time we got to our seats it was 21-0. So we weren't really thrilled about our trip or our tortillas, for that matter. So, knowing that both my friend and I were a**holes, we picked out some random 40-50 yr. old woman down about ten rows and we kept wadding up small bits of our tortillas and pegging her in the back of the head. She kept batting them off, as if it were part of the game. When we were finally out of ours, these guys (about 40-50 themselves) asked if we knew the woman. We told them that we just picked her at random, and since the game was boring, we figured we had to entertain ourselves somehow. Those guys gave us their tortillas, also. For a crap game, I can imagine that USC fan coming home saying Texas sucks! Look at the back of my hair!
HA HA HA, That is about 45 minutes from where I live, I see their cross country team all the time. The first time I saw them in their sweats I thought, who in their right mind would do that. Trust me they still wear stuff that say Butte Pirates on them.
