At work so can't see the vids here. To me, I can't single one out. I used to get the most frustrated by Francis's dribbling a shotclock down and Yao's TOs. Now, I cringe when Lin gets in the air and tries to make a pass to who-knows-what, and results in a turnover.
I think the Lin airball was the worst play. You can't really expect to much from Brad Miller, but we all know JLin is much better than that shot.
Has it really come to this? The digression of a three point shot being so severe that a lack of airballs becomes an occasion to celebrate?

Gosh you guys are young. Karl Malone's ****ing moving bear hug screen on Drexler? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Qobv8yUTJ_E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This one was so bad, it earned the famous Adelman death stare. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fWFhsWMddx4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The point of this thread is which is the worst PLAY. Not asking for the worst player, who cares if Lin hasn't shot an airball (he is actually shooting well from 3 lately; 37.5% in last 10). His airball 3 was a bad play when you consider we were down by one against the best team with less than a minute left. I agree with others that the brad Miller play was horrible.
http://images.si.com/basketball/nba/scoreboards/1999/05/09/recap.LAL-HOU.html The Lakers strangely elected not to foul but caught a break when tough defense by Bryant forced Pippen to slip and lose his dribble. Fisher dove on the loose ball and called timeout with 7.6 seconds left. "I saw him stumble and then I saw the ball slip off of the back of his leg and when I saw I had a chance at it, that's all I do," Fisher said. "When I see a loose ball, I'm gone."
the Brad Miller game, for sure. that was like the basketball version of David Garrard's batted down hail-Mary touchdown pass. although...this game made me sick to my stomach <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/TjbkXewxlGI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> makes me wonder sometimes why fans on this board still got love for him.
I find it crazy that people calling an air ball 3 the worst play of a franchise history. Either you have a short term / selective memory or that the franchise has been too awesome to have a worse play. I haven't been following Rockets that close before this year, but Omer's tip into own basket would be worse than Lin's air 3. Instead of 0 point you get -2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPIr2DQer3M Greg Smith tying his shoe resulting in a turnover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQDDLl_QOKc
Clearly you aren't taking the state of the game into account. The three probably would have won the game, those other 2 weren't game deciding.
I guess it depends on what you mean by worst. To me, John Stockton's 3 to win was unquestionably the worst play in Rockets history. I'm frankly not sure how anyone could logically argue otherwise. It effectively became Hakeem and Chuck's last "real" shot at a championship. And it was a legitimate real shot. Thats not to say the Rockets would have won the series or the Finals, but you can say that its a possibility had that 1 play not happened more than you can say so for any other single play in Rockets history. That being the case, it being so deep in the playoffs, it being a last second shot and loss, and to what was unquestionable one of their biggest rivals of the day, it's a no brainer. Think of all of us on the board who just have wished that Hakeem had that one opportunity to face Jordan in the playoffs to see if all of his regular season success against Jordan would carry over to the playoffs. Imagine if the Rockets had made it to the Finals and won how it would change the history of what people think about the Rockets, about Hakeem, about Jordan... heck even about Kobe or Lebron relative to Jordan. All the others posted thus far are funny, or may have been individually worse plays (one can easily argue Lin's airball and certainly Miller's final 30 seconds are worse displays of basketball skill), but if there was one play I would take back in Rockets history it would be the Stockton shot.
The thread title says "Worst plays in rocket's history" and I'm thinking it means "By the rockets." Stockton's 3 is one of the worst moments but it wasn't a rocket's play, unless you are considering defensive mistakes (someone already pointed out Malone practically grabbed drexler). It was stockton's shot and not really the lack of what the rockets did that defined the moment. I'm pretty sure OP meant worst plays by the rockets.
omg I remember this game. It was pretty stupid but I'm going to take some of the blame off on Yao because it just shows how much he puts in for the game. Trying to get a steal from aguard or w.e, granted he should have known he had 5 fouls but in a game like that with the adrenaline pumping making an overly ambitious play shouldn't be considered the worst. Brad was super old , he ****ed up many times before but that was embarrasing to say the least. Lin's airball just seems to be the most demoralizing and even a giant LOL moment in a cynical sort of way because he was wide open and it shattered all expectations.
That's what I thought too. Pippen's turnover during crunch time vs the Lakers in 99 was horrible. we just paid that dude max salary.
The play before that where Drexler starts his drive too early and falls down to set up that shot has too be the worse for me.
