I never thought a sporting event could bring me close to tears again like when I was a child and I saw game 7 in Seattle, John Stockton and the Buffalo game...

I wanted to cry myself to sleep but I was in public. So I had to let Alchol be the cure. It worked well.....

Oh, crap! I didn't even see that one. Can I change my vote? That was beyond painful -- it was suicide-inducing. Every time they show that final play on TV, I get depressed for a week.

for me, theyre all equally as bad. they all hurt equally as much.

i'm starting to think that its better to be one of those bandwagon fans. theres no stress. and definitely no emotional involvement.

The Oilers-Bills playoff game, by far. That one not only hurt me personally, but the fact that it was a playoff game and somewhat of a benchmark when it comes to comebacks (or chokes) means that someone will always bring it up and all the bad memories and feelings come back like it was only last week. The 1983 Cougar defeat was pretty bad because of the ending and the fact that they were too damn talented to lose to these guys, but they did. UGH!!!

Now that I think about it, it HAS to be the UH/NC State NCAA title game.

The reason: That one was for ALL the marbles.

A win wouldn't just advance us one more step -- that was the national friggin' title game!!! Win and you are the champions. And we were supposed to kill that unworthy NC State team who had somehow stumbled into the slot opposite us.

voted for buffalo, but outcome of series could change that.

Also, pretty upset in general that you brought up every one of these topics.

Honestly, I can't separate any of those moments disappointment-wise. I felt equally hollow inside for each and every one of those moments. I swear, you could put the "Goat Curse" and the "Cuse of the Bambino" in a blender and the shake wouldn't even approach the heartbreak I think most Houston sports fans have had to endure. I look at the 94' and 95' Rockets in utter amazement wondering how those teams succeeded amidst such bad karma. God is many things, but an Astros/Oilers/Cougar fan he is not.

Rockets, only because it's the only one I remember/watched, and because I already hated Stockton with a passion, and we didn't lose the series because of this.

Two games to go. Roger and Roy. And y'alls ready to concede?

Clutch should spark up an 'astro's classic moments' generator from June.

This one shouldn't even rate. Just beat the damn Cards.

Oilers #1 since that was (IMO) the best chance at a title for the franchise and it was coughed up, not just lost by fluke bad luck.

Rockets #2 since that was also a championship level team, an elimination game one step from Finals. Not #1 since the wheels were coming off that team after the first round sweep of the Wolves and a subsequent complacency that seemed to seep in. From that point on, Dream, Clyde, and Charles all looked like they were playing with about 80% effort and squandered a chance at sweeping the Sonics.

I can't put last night at a top spot, since it wasn't an elimination game. What happens between now and Thursday will determine how it goes down. If we advance, it'll be forgotten. If we miss out on the WS, it goes down as our version of last year's ALCS Game 4.

i've gotten over big time losses before, but nothing has been as bad as this. i couldn't sleep last night, i'm walking around in a comatose state today. never has sports caused such grief for me. i hope our guys bounce back and get it done in st. louis but this loss was awful. it was like albert pujols jumped out of the TV last night and shoved his bat down my neck.

Nothing is worse than the Oilers debacle. People were burning their Oilers gear after the game.

    the Astros.. are CHOKE CITY!

What you're forgetting about that Oilers game is that the AFC championship game the next week....I forget where, either Buffalo or another famously cold stadium at playoff time....had unseasonably warm weather and would have been ideal for the Run and Shoot to hope for as far as road games in the winter go.
Also, the talent on that team, from position to position, was IMO beyond any other team in the league. They would have made it an all Texas Super Bowl that year.

Buffalo, by far. The pain has simply faded with time when compared to the heart-crushing homerun last night.

And I thought I was the only one that didn't get any sleep last night because of that game! :D

    :)

The scary thing about Pujols is that he may hit a walkoff shot in game 6 or 7 that will top that game 5 homer. If I was Garner I would have walked him and take my chances with Sanders with the bases loaded. No way you pitch to that guy when you are 1 out away from the World Series. That was the most painful moment in Houston's sports IMO.
