http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/john_hollinger/07/20/golden.state/index.html check out this article. pretty solid case for why mullin is a total bonehead as a gm. they could be competing for a playoff spot if they hadnt been letting all their best players like gilbert arenas leave for the last couple years.
I disagree, their drafting and moves have been pretty poor. Just look at what they got for Jamison, and then what the Mavs got for Jamison moving him 1 year later, to get an idea. Also consider the Marc Jackson debackle in terms of player treatment and dealing with agents. Their coaching moves and handling Spree debackle. The trading away of players like Webber just before his prime, Mitch R, same deal. Granted not all Mullin's moves, but their track record is just atrocious for over a decade now. The Fisher/Foyle ridiculus contracts just continue the trend and may be a product of the fact overpaying is the only way any one will go there or stay there.
IIRC, none of those moves took place under Mullin's watch. I'll conceed most of those points, but not the Jamison one. Mullin's M.O. has been to shave contracts and go young since he got there. Moving Jamison was to get a guy with less years on his deal, which he's now moved for an expiring deal. That the Mavs got a shot-knee Stack and final year Laettner for him doesn't really swoon me. Harris may be the only starting-caliber player they honestly see from the deal. Washington got the better of that trade. So, I'd agree from the standpoint of building a competetive team now, but Mullin seems to be working on a long term basis. It's the Foyle and Fisher signings that I can't figure out. If you look at GSW salaries over the next 3 years, those two are the only ones under guaranteed contract in two years. They'll still have cap space galore starting next summer, but was Adoynal really that important???? Evan
