Barry's shot was unconventional but not ugly. His underhand shot was very smooth. What was his career percentage? About 95%?
Jamaal Wilkes. That corkscrew shot always got to me. Anthony Mason, Adrian Dantley (with his making love to the ball before shooting it), Derrick Chievous (with his OH MY GOD! wide open mouth shooting), Nick van Exel (with his 15 feet isn't long enough, I want to shoot a 17 foot free throw), and others come to mind...
I learned to shoot them after attending Kenny Smith basketball camp when I was about 12. I still remember how he said to shoot them, and I've been a very good free throw shooter since. If you look down at the free throw line, there is usually a small screw indicating the middle of the line...if not, you can see the lines of the flooring going up and down, and you can locate the middle line from them. Put your right foot down (if you're right handed) right in the middle, which will line up your elbow and the ball with the rim. Apparently this makes it easier without having to shoot at an angle...it worked for me anyhow. Of course it also takes using your knees and having nice touch. I really hate watching Shaq shoot them. Not only does he have no touch, but he leans forward as he's shooting it. Dudley was bad too.
If we're talking ugly rituals before shooting free throws: Hornacek - QUIT WIPING YOUR DAMN FACE!! Kidd - whatever.... Hamilton - damn side dribble Karl Malone - who the hell are you talking to? LJ used to have that long hitch or pause in his free throw, and often drew line violations in college. Nuts. Mark Jackson as he "measures up" the shot prior to shooting. Remember Purvis Short's rainbow free throw that often would leave the camera's view? I actually like Van Exel shooting a longer shot, but then I always liked his confidence and swagger.
MARTY COLON ex heat player all the stadium use to laugh when he shot it it looked like if he was going to the bathroom when he shot it , i felt bad for the guy.
