subtomic, I praise you for an excellent post. I don't listen to the artists you favor but the things you have pointed out about the pop music sector are things which I would have to agree with.
I also second that. Excellent post, sub. But what did you expect from someone who likes Massive Attack?
There are a lot of cheapo albums I've bought as jokes, back in the 90s when irony was hip (Letters to Cleo comes to mind), but I won't count those because I wasn't expecting to like the music anyway. Worst ever? I'd have to say Shakespeare's Sister, I liked one song when I was 12 but the album is truly horrid. I came close to saying "2 Legit To Quit," but "Do Not Pass Me By" is awesome. Great stuff. And, dammit, Queen's "Flash Gordon" kicks major ass. My second and third least favorite purchases both involve that Barlow b*stard, I bought "Bakesale" by Sebadoh back when it came out after everyone said how great it was, and I can't stand that whiny crap. Dinosaur (Jr.)'s "You're Living All Over Me" has a great title but that's about it.
I had the worst by far....depeche mode ....I brainwashed my mind to forget how to spell the stupid band, used it as a plinking target for my AR-15....then picked up the fragments and burned it in fire......after that I scooped the ashes and flung over my neighbor's fence...I walked back with a smile.
