Of the movies listed, I've only seen Spiderman, Independence Day, Bad Boys, and The Rock. They were not bad movies, but not exactly movies that made you think..... which is their appeal.

Idiotic, moronic list. Titanic is one of the best movies ever- what, unfortunately, causes movies like this and others to suffer is the pre-hype, the hype, and the post-hype. Believe it or not, when this movie first came out, I was so busy with school that I hadn't even heard about it. I went that afternoon when it first came out intending to see another movie, but I had the wrong week for that other movie. One of the best movie experiences ever, bar none. It's great, period.

screw that guy. i watch and choose to like what i damn well please and not what some idiot writes.

whats so wrong about going to the movies just to have fun and not taking a movie seriously. i really think he should revise his taste. sure only one out ten movies is really deep and perfect, but what so wrong with seeing some robots fight each other for a while. my nephew loves those flicks and so do i, who is he to judge out taste

E.T. is a very legendary movie, you would have had to been a live to see how great it was....it probably was one of the greatest blockbusters of all time.... this was the first movie to reach 400 million (non-inflation) dollars....Unlike many of the superhero movies and novel based stories, ET was an original story and it came before the term blockbuster became almost every 2-4 weeks thing. The film only cost $10 million dollars went onto to make breaking all sorts of records.

It is kids movie, but it probably is one of the greatest ever made....this film even made AFI original 100 at 24.....and is in the Film Registry List (usually a film of social significance or astounding achievement)....I don't see too many blockbusters nowadays gaining that kind of significance like that over time, not saying blockbusters nowadays are bad movies, just very cookie cutter. If you understand filmmaking, you can see Spielberg did fantastic job in this movie.

I don't think some of the other movies belong either, because they are not really terrible just a bit over hyped.

Movies that should've been on there:

    Wild Wild West
    Superman III
    Con-Air

Agree with them all except with Star Wars.

Sigh.... another Lucas hater. I hated the lazy CGI effects, but the story overshadowed it for me. And to those who knock the wooden acting and dialog....when's the last time you watched IV, V, and VI? Mark Hamil ain't exactly Robert Dinero...

I - Granted, it's not a great movie, but Darth Maul made it worth watching. Along with the foreshadowing events with Palpatine.

II - Cool to see the origin of the stormtroopers, although I wish he would have made the clones look more like them so there would have been more of a connection. Same with the Star Destroyers taking off at the end, it would have been cool to see them look exactly like the sequel ones. I hated the whole Gladiator rip-off part though.

III - I liked it a lot, but I wish they would have spent more time after Anakin became Vader, instead of just the last few minutes. I wanted to see Vader kick some ass.

I still think Lucas should make one more movie between III and IV. We're talking about 20 years here. Call it The Rise of the Empire and just focus on Vader and the Emperor kicking ass and killing Jedi.

What was this thread about again?

According to the dictionary definition, your idea would be wrong:

That movie sucked so bad. The commercials made it an even bigger dissapointment.

I thought this was going to be a list of "FAILED" blockbusters, like "Speed Racer" or "Speed 2". I was definitely wrong.
He said "I tend to think", so it's an opinion, man... you don't need to look up a dictionary for an opinion. A very good opinion, I might add.

yeah, I think the original author was going with movies that made large numbers, not ones that cost large numbers and tanked at either the box office, critically, or in legacy.

Still, the first two Spidermans? ET? This guy is just taking a dump on movies that aren't up his alley. Da Vinci Code, The Rock, Home Alone, Bad Boys, Indy Day, etc weren't Top 100 All Time films, but they more than held their own. If Passion of the Christ was terrible, then The Ten Commandments must be a complete stinker. Titanic wasn't that awful either, it just suffers from horrific backlash since it took over the planet for a few months (in part thanks to Celine Dion).

My list, of the "least deserving" among the Top 100 Grossing Films of All Time:
#18 Shrek 3 - okay, but pales in comparison of the first two
#34 Meet the Fockers - as confusing a blockbuster take as Along Came Polly
#50 Twister - okay, but not on the same level as its gross
#58 Jurrasic Park 2 - first legitimately BAD movie on the list
#68 Alvin and the Chipmunks (live action) - I wouldn't have put the cartoon film here
#72 Austin Powers 3 - indefensibly BAD movie
#83 Superman Returns - tepid film at best, and doubled as a bomb despite its gross (way below Warner's box office expectations)
I should include Batman Forever, but I have a soft spot for this one.

That is why I said according to a dictionary his idea would be wrong. I didn't say I think it is wrong.

Wow. Even some of the ****tiest films of all time have their defenders, I guess.

My least favorite "blockbusters" that I saw in the theater (if I didn't see 'em on the big screen, they couldn't have busted any blocks):

Star Wars prequels, particularly the first
    Bad Boys 2
    Mars Attacks!
    X-Files
and the number one worst blockbuster I've ever seen... INDEPENDENCE DAY.

Independence Day pisses me off when I think about it. Particularly the fact that that ****ing cropduster somehow could fly a supersonic jet. Oh, and Will Smith had no problem piloting an alien spacecraft not even designed for human physiology. OH! And Jeff Goldblum uploads a virus on the alien "mainframe(?!)" using a goddamned MacBook. I didn't realize that his laptop and the aliens were on the same network! And apparently aliens don't have antivirus software! I'm not even going to get into the fact that Will Smith's gorgeous girlfriend was a stripper! ******* I hated that movie.

Man, what a horrible list. I think the comment this was just meant to be a "shock list" is correct. I mean, other than a few of his choices this almost looks like a list for "blockbuster movies that were actually good."

Spider-man 2 is the best blockbuster movie in recent memory other than maybe Lord of the Rings, and yet that's included on the list over things like Pearl Harbor and Armageddon? Despite the dialogue, Titanic was an incredible spectacle of a movie and well worth the admission price.

    And then Home Alone? WTF?

    Totally agree on this.

The thing that pisses me off the most about that movie is that it could have been a GREAT movie. The whole concept of these gigantic discs hovering over our cities before unleashing a death ray that destroys everything is actually pretty interesting. And the discs themselves were pretty bad-ass. But the writers seemed more interested in trying to create the next movie catchphrase (“welcome to earth!!”) than they did in actually making a compelling movie.

And Harry Connick Jr’s character was totally worthless. He’s in his jet fighting these aliens and the world is coming to an end – and he’s trash talking like it’s a pickup basketball game.

Just horrible execution of what could have been a really great movie.

For many years, Mars Attacks! was my younger son's favorite movie. He was 3 when we saw it in the theater, loved it from the first frame and watched it constantly on video for years after that.

He finally came to his senses.

terrible probably one of those movies elitists who want film to be strictly art and cant just appreciate the entertainment value of some films. granted there are a few films on his list that i also did not enjoy watching and would probably not see again, but a majority of his list seems like, "lets find some of the biggest movies and chop them down because they made a lot of money." The fact that they made a lot of money goes to show his opinion is in the minority and he is just whining about it.

sometimes i want to see a great movie like shawshank for its characters and story and other i just want to see things blow up and be entertained by stunts and the such.

and as for top grossing movies that list really needs to be adjusted to probably total ticket sales if possible or adjusted for inflation because a ticket to a movie back in the 70s costs far less than a movie ticket today...heck a ticket when I was a kid was a lot cheaper than today. so while a movie like shrek 3 will have made a lot of money the money that it did made probably has less value than a movie that made less (up to a certain amount obviously) than it did back in the 70s
